Endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS)-guided transbronchial miniforceps biopsy an urban center experience
CONCLUSIONS: Our study suggests that combining EBUS-MFB with EBUS-TBNA can improve the diagnostic yield, particularly in benign cases and sarcoidosis. These findings support the potential superiority of adding EBUS-MFB over EBUS-TBNA alone and highlight the need for further randomized control trials to validate these results. The retrospective nature of this study and certain limitations, such as the lack of adequate longer-term follow-up, selection and operator biases, and the absence of rapid on-site evaluation (ROSE) in some cases, should be considered when interpreting the results. Nonetheless, this study contributes t...

Factors associated with increased diagnostic yield of endobronchial ultrasound-guided transbronchial needle aspiration: an observational single center study
CONCLUSIONS: Increasing the number of passes during EBUS-TBNA can maximize the diagnostic yield, especially when CT and/or PET/CT results are inconclusive.PMID:38410574 | PMC:PMC10894410 | DOI:10.21037/jtd-23-1369 (Source: Journal of Thoracic Disease)

Deep learning based ultrasound analysis facilitates precise distinction between parotid pleomorphic adenoma and Warthin tumor
ConclusionFor the discrimination of PA and WT, DL models are superior to ultrasound and FNAC, thereby facilitating surgeons in making informed decisions regarding the most appropriate surgical approach. (Source: Frontiers in Oncology)

Metastatic Oncocytic Papillary Renal Cell Carcinoma of Scalp Diagnosed by Fine Needle Aspiration: A Rare Entity with Review of Literature
We report a case of metastatic Oncocytic Papillary Renal Cell Carcinoma (OPRCC) over the scalp as the first presentation of the underlying primary tumor diagnosed on fine-needle aspiration and confirmed by immunohistochemistry on the cell block. (Source: Indian Journal of Surgical Oncology)

Primary thyroid lymphoma: a case series
ConclusionPTL is a rare disease whose diagnosis should be considered in cases of rapidly growing goitres. Timely needle biopsy in suspected cases can avoid unnecessary surgery. Systemic treatment is required, depending on the stage of the tumour. (Source: Journal of Medical Case Reports)

Fine needle aspiration of human lymph nodes reveals cell populations and soluble interactors pivotal to immunological priming
Eur J Immunol. 2024 Feb 22:e2350872. doi: 10.1002/eji.202350872. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTLymph node (LN) fine needle aspiration (LN FNA) represents a powerful technique for minimally invasive sampling of human LNs in vivo and has been used effectively to directly study aspects of the human germinal center response. However, systematic deep phenotyping of the cellular populations and cell-free proteins recovered by LN FNA has not been performed. Thus, we studied human cervical LN FNAs as a proof-of-concept and used single-cell RNA-sequencing and proteomic analysis to benchmark this compartment, define the purity of LN...

Isolated Extra-Pulmonary Tuberculosis in ENT: A Commonly Missed Diagnosis
AbstractTuberculosis (TB) constitutes 15 –20% of TB cases in general practice among HIV-negative adults in India. The head and neck region provides an impressive field of research because of its varied presentations and different sites of involvement. TB may often mimic malignancy and is misdiagnosed, which leads to an unnecessary delay in diagnosis. Through this study, we aim to draw focus on the various ways in which isolated extrapulmonary TB manifests in today’s clinical practice in the head and neck region. Prospective analysis of 60 patients diagnosed with TB in a simple random sampling over 1 year. The period o...
