Paraganglioma of the thyroid gland: A case report and literature review
We report on a middle-aged man with thyroid paraganglioma that presented as an incidental finding on the computed tomography scan of the thorax. Preoperative fine-needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) was suggestive of a neuroendocrine tumour. Hemithyroidectomy was performed and histological findings were most compatible with paraganglioma arising from the thyroid gland. The diagnosis of primary thyroid paraganglioma is rarely established by FNAC preoperatively due to architectural similarities with other thyroid tumours; the most important clinical technique for differentiating thyroid paraganglioma from other histology is im...

Isolated testicular tuberculosis mimicking testicular malignancy in a 45-year-old male treated at a tertiary hospital. Case report and literature review
CONCLUSION: Testicular TB is a curable disease, but its diagnosis remains challenging. It is often missed owing to its non- specific symptoms. Thus, testicular TB should be suspected in patients with a notion of contagion or history of tuberculosis. Some of the radiological features are highly suggestive of testicular TB. FNAB could prevent unnecessary orchidectomy. In our case, the presentation was typically mimicking a testicular cancer and the patient underwent trans inguinal orchiectomy, and histology and ZN stain confirmed the diagnosis followed by subsequent six-month anti TB therapy.PMID:38471216 | DOI:10.1016/j.ijs...

Ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration thyroglobulin in the diagnosis of lymph node metastasis of differentiated papillary thyroid carcinoma and its influencing factors
ConclusionThe findings of this study indicate that the utilization of FNA in conjunction with FNA-Tg is a crucial approach for detecting LNM in DTC. TNM stage indicated N1b, the presence of HVLNM, the presence of HT, lymph node L/S ratio, liquefaction, calcification, tumor diameter, sTg and sTgAb are factors that can impact FNA-Tg levels. In the context of clinical application, it is imperative to individualize the use of FNA-Tg. Endobronchial ultrasound-transbronchial needle aspiration: effectiveness and accuracy in non-small cell lung cancer staging
ConclusionsEBUS-TBNA is a safe and effective procedure that offers high sensitivity and specificity when performed together with ROSE, which improves the accuracy of sampling. Doubt on nodal stations 5 and 6 involvement should be settled by other techniques.Graphical Abstract (Source: Updates in Surgery)

Comparative evaluation of shear wave elastography elasticity values in thyroid nodules with cytology results and TI-RADS scoring in differentiation of benign –malignant nodules
ConclusionThis study showed that combining SWE and TI-RADS improves the specificity of TI-RADS alone in differentiating benign and malignant nodules. (Source: European Archives of Oto-Rhino-Laryngology)

A 49-Year-Old Man With Fever and Dyspnea After Endobronchial Ultrasound-Guided Transbronchial Fine Needle Aspiration Biopsy
Chest. 2024 Mar;165(3):e65-e69. doi: 10.1016/j.chest.2023.08.018.ABSTRACTA 49-year-old man, a farmer, had been experiencing coughing, phlegm, and difficulty breathing for 2 months. He underwent a CT scan at a local hospital that showed a mediastinal mass. Bronchoscopy showed no obstruction in the tracheal lumen, and an endobronchial ultrasound-guided transbronchial fine needle aspiration (EBUS-TBNA) biopsy was performed on the mediastinal mass. The cytologic smear of the mediastinal mass showed a few atypical epithelial cells; the possibility of a tumor could not be ruled out. The patient visited our thoracic surgery outpa...
