Tardive dyskinesia in Asia — current clinical practice and the role of neurologists in the care pathway
This article reports the results of a systematic review of the published literature on TD focusing on its prevalence, types of patients, knowledge of the condition, causative factors, and usual treatment pathways in clinical practice in Asian countries. Epidemiological data suggest that the prevalence of TD is increasing globally due to an overall rise in APD use, contributing factors being polypharmacy with multiple APDs, the use of higher than necessary doses, and off-label use for non-psychotic indications. Although exact prevalence figures for TD in Asian countries are difficult to define, there is a similar pattern of...

Dyskinesia and Pain in Advanced Parkinson ’s Disease: Post Hoc Analysis from the Phase 3b, Open-Label, Randomized DYSCOVER Study
ConclusionsIn patients with high dyskinesia burden, positive correlations were observed between dyskinesia, pain, and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) at baseline. Improvements in dyskinesia and pain were associated with improvements in HRQoL, demonstrating the clinical burden of troublesome dyskinesia.Trial Registration NumberClinicaltrials.gov identifier NCT02799381. Antigen stasis and airway nitrosative stress in human primary ciliary dyskinesia
CONCLUSIONS: The PCD airway epithelium does not optimally clear antigens and is subject to oxidative and nitrosative stress. Oxidation associated with antigen stasis could represent a therapeutic target in PCD, one with convenient monitoring biomarkers.PMID:38318660 | DOI:10.1152/ajplung.00208.2022 (Source: Am J Physiol Lung Ce...)

Cholecystokinin and cholecystokinin-A receptor: An attractive treatment strategy for biliary dyskinesia?
World J Gastroenterol. 2024 Jan 21;30(3):283-285. doi: 10.3748/wjg.v30.i3.283.ABSTRACTBiliary dyskinesia is a relatively common gastrointestinal disease that is increasing in incidence as living standards improve. However, its underlying pathogenesis remains unclear, hindering the development of therapeutic drugs. Recently, "Expression and functional study of cholecystokinin-A receptors on the interstitial Cajal-like cells of the guinea pig common bile duct" demonstrated that cholecystokinin (CCK) regulates the contractile function of the common bile duct through interaction with the CCK-A receptor in interstitial Cajal-li...
