Withdrawal syndrome after antipsychotics discontinuation: an analysis of the WHO database of spontaneous reports (Vigibase) between 2000 and 2022
ConclusionOur results suggest that there might be a risk difference for WDS between antipsychotics. Tiotixene, pimozide and quetiapine were associated with a higher risk of reporting a WDS whereas this risk was lower with chlorpromazine, clozapine and fluphenazine. We could not address the issue of withdrawal psychosis, withdrawal dyskinesia, rebound psychosis or supersensitivity psychosis due to the lack of specific WHO medDRA coded terms to identify potential cases. Our patient is a 75-year-old man, non-combat Army veteran ('66-'69), divorced, domiciled in his own apartment, retired from the post office, with a medical history of asthma and osteoarthritis, a psychiatric history of primary psychosis beginning in his late fifties (without affective symptoms, substance use, or cognitive decline with a MoCA 26/30), cocaine use disorder in partial remission, and depression in remission, one prior admission, without suicidality or violence, who follows with geriatric psychiatry for psychosis, tardive dyskinesia, and cocaine use. A Case of Partially Reversible Oral-buccal-lingual Dyskinesia after Prolonged Levetiracetam Exposure
Although antipsychotic drugs were previously believed to be the primary cause of tardive dyskinesia (TD), recent studies have challenged this belief, suggesting that other drug classes, including antiepileptic drugs such as levetiracetam, can also be linked to TD. Unilateral focused ultrasound subthalamotomy in early Parkinsons disease: a pilot study
Conclusion
Unilateral FUS-STN may be safe and effective to treat motor manifestations in patients with early PD. A larger confirmatory trial is warranted.
