Is social deprivation associated with the peritoneal dialysis outcomes? A cohort study with REIN registry data
CONCLUSION: In PD patients, social deprivation was not associated with death or the composite event of death or transfer to HD. Socially deprived individuals had a greater risk of transfer to HD and lower access to kidney transplantation in the competing risk analysis.PMID:38632672 | DOI:10.1177/08968608241237685 (Source: Peritoneal Dialysis International)

Health-related quality of life in paediatric patients on peritoneal dialysis: Data from a tertiary centre
Perit Dial Int. 2024 Apr 17:8968608241241177. doi: 10.1177/08968608241241177. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTKidney failure has a negative impact on both children and families' quality of life (QOL). We evaluated the burden of home peritoneal dialysis (PD) using two local questionnaires and the French version of PedsQL3.0 end-stage kidney disease module and family impact module. Data are expressed as median (min-max). We reviewed the charts of 12 patients, at a median age of 8.8 (1.2-16.7) years, undergoing maintenance PD for 8 (1-42) months. Parathyroid hormone and haemoglobin levels were 215 (17-606) ng/L and 117 (104-141...

Determination of drug-related problems according to PAIR criteria in dialysis patients: a cross-sectional study in tertiary care hospital
CONCLUSIONS: As a result, PAIR criteria can identify clinically relevant DRPs in patients with CKD and is a new, validated tool to be used in Turkey, but may not be adequate for patients receiving dialysis. Therefore, it needs to be reviewed and updated for dialysis patients.PMID:38637817 | PMC:PMC11025200 | DOI:10.1186/s40360-024-00754-6 (Source: BMC Pharmacology and Toxicology)

Multidrug-resistant pathogens and ventilator-associated pneumonia in critically ill COVID-19 and non-COVID-19 patients: a prospective observational monocentric comparative study
CONCLUSION: COVID-19 patients with VAP appear to have a significantly higher ICU and in-hospital mortality risk regardless of the presence of MDR and DTR pathogens. Tracheostomy and a shorter duration of mechanical ventilation appear to be associated with better outcomes.PMID:38637766 | PMC:PMC11027225 | DOI:10.1186/s12931-024-02779-1 (Source: Respiratory Care)

Why surveys are 'very hard': exploring challenges and insights for collection of authentic patient experience information with speakers of Australian First Nations languages
CONCLUSION: Profound implications for the acceptability of a survey tool as well as data quality arise from differences between First Nations cultural and communication contexts and the cultural context within which survey methods have evolved. When data collection processes are not linguistically and culturally congruent there is a risk that patient experience data are inaccurate, miss what is important to First Nations patients and have limited utility for informing relevant healthcare improvement. Engagement of First Nations cultural and language experts is essential in all stages of development, implementation and eval...
