Combining hemodialysis with peritoneal dialysis improves cognitive function: a three-case report
AbstractChronic kidney disease (CKD) is associated with multiple complications, with recent scholarly attention underscoring cognitive impairment as a salient manifestation. Considering societal aging, preserving cognitive function has emerged as an urgent medical concern. Prolonged dialysis, encompassing hemodialysis (HD) and peritoneal dialysis (PD), has been associated with a decline in cognitive function. Here, we present the cases of three patients undergoing PD who exhibited a noticeable improvement in cognitive function upon the initiation of HD. One patient had exhibited mild cognitive decline, whereas the remainin...

Survival, cumulative hospital days and infectious complications in urgent-start PD compared with urgent-start HD
CONCLUSIONS: Patient survival, cumulative first-year hospital care days and total KRT-related infection rate at 3 months and 1-year follow-up are similar between urgent-start PD and urgent-start HD patients. Furthermore, CVC insertion rate is associated with incident blood culture-positive bacteraemia and increased cumulative first-year hospital care days.PMID:38661183 | DOI:10.1177/08968608241244939 (Source: Peritoneal Dialysis International)

Correlation Between the 8-hydroxy-2'-deoxyguanosine Level  in the Peritoneal Solution of Patients Undergoing Peritoneal Dialysis and the Peritoneal Equilibration Test, Kt/V, Ferritin, and Albumin Levels
CONCLUSION: The results of the present study demonstrate that the level of 8OHDG, as one of the oxidative stress markers, could be used to evaluate the function of the peritoneum in patients undergoing PD. Risk Factors and Clinical Characterization of Cardiovascularand Cerebrovascular Events in Elderly Hemodialysis Patients
CONCLUSION: Patients with underlying diseases such as hypertensive or diabetic nephropathy are more likely to experience cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events. Longer dialysis duration, higher systolic and diastolic blood pressures, elevated uric acid, TC, TG, LDL-C, PTH and blood glucose levels, and boosted inflammatory reaction are risk factors for these events among elderly HD patients. The purpose of this study is to provide practical guidelines for clinical treatment. Comprehensive measures such as active intervention of risk factors, rational drug use and regular examination should be taken to improve the overall...
