Adverse events in biologics for severe asthma
CONCLUSION: Biologics for severe asthma are recent drugs with a favorable safety profile, but with little real-life experience, justifying increased vigilance by prescribing physicians.PMID:38653607 | DOI:10.1016/j.rmr.2024.04.001 (Source: Revue des Maladies Respiratoires)

Identifying atopic dermatitis risk loci in 1,094,060 individuals with sub analysis of disease severity and onset
Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a common inflammatory skin disease highly attributable to genetic factors. Here, we report results from a genome-wide meta-analysis of AD in 37,541 cases and 1,056,519 controls with data from the FinnGen project, the Estonian Biobank, the UK Biobank, the EAGLE Consortium, and the BioBank Japan. We detected 77 independent AD-associated loci of which 10 were to our knowledge previously unreported. The associated loci showed enrichment in various immune regulatory processes. Economic Burden of Itch-Related Sleep Loss in Moderate-to-Severe Atopic Dermatitis in the United Kingdom
ConclusionsSleep disruption has a high economic burden and reducing itch may provide substantial direct and indirect savings. Quantifying the economic burden of itch-related sleep loss may provide support for analyses to inform public health policies for treatment of atopic dermatitis, particularly within the moderate-to-severe level. Sociodemographic factors linked to food allergy diagnosis among high-risk children with atopic dermatitis
CONCLUSION: Labeling at-risk young children with food allergy without thorough objective testing can impact their nutrition and quality of life. Barriers to equitable evaluation of food allergy diagnosis should be further investigated and addressed.PMID:38648973 | DOI:10.1016/j.anai.2024.04.016 (Source: Annals of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology)

Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAllergic contact dermatitis induced by the use of ophthalmic topical drugs is one of the most common causes of eyelid dermatitis. The introduction of new formulations, both of active ingredients and excipients, and the lack of marketing in some of them, makes patch testing in patients whose source of contact are topical ophthalmic drugs truly challenging. Across this manuscript, most, if not all, topical ophthalmic drugs used in our national health system have been collected, including information on the al...

Nanopore Long-Read Sequencing Solves the Conundrum of FLG Genetics
Loss-of-function (LoF) variants resulting in stop codons in FLG are causative for ichthyosis vulgaris (IV) (Smith et  al, 2006). FLG LoF is also a major risk factor for developing atopic dermatitis (AD) (Palmer et al, 2006). However, reports of mild AD in compound heterozygote individuals suggest that these LoF may be in cis (same allele) and the other allele to be normal. To further complicate FLG genetics, eac h FLG allele is comprised of either 10, 11, or 12 repeats, with each additional repeat decreasing the odds of AD (Brown et al, 2012).
