GSE240646 First exploration of the altered microbial gut-lung axis in the pathogenesis of human refractory chronic cough
Contributors : Matteo Ramazzotti ; Amedeo Amedei ; Simone Baldi ; Leandro Di GloriaSeries Type : OtherOrganism : Homo sapiensv3-v4 16S rRNA sequencing was used to characterize both gut and oral microbiota composition of RCC (refractory chronic cough) patients and matched healthy controls (HC). The groups are matched in age and gender. (Source: GEO: Gene Expression Omnibus)

Cancers, Vol. 16, Pages 1534: A Prospective Study on Deep Inspiration Breath Hold Thoracic Radiation Therapy Guided by Bronchoscopically Implanted Electromagnetic Transponders
Conclusions: Bronchoscopically implanted electromagnetic transponder–guided DIBH lung RT is feasible and safe, allowing for precise tumor targeting and reduced normal tissue exposure. Transponder–antenna distance was the most common challenge due to a limited antenna range, which could sometimes be circumvented by prone positioning. (Source: Cancers)

Preparation, structural characteristics and pharmacological activity of polysaccharides from Polygala tenuifolia: A review
Carbohydr Res. 2024 Apr 10;539:109117. doi: 10.1016/j.carres.2024.109117. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPolygala tenuifolia is a traditional Chinese medicine with a long history of application, with the efficacy of suppressing cough, calming asthma, tranquilizing the mind, and benefiting the intellect. It is classified as a top-quality medicine in Shennong's Classic of Materia Medica. Polysaccharide is an important active ingredient in Polygala tenuifolia, which consists of several monosaccharides, including Ara, Gal, Glc, and so on. In this review, the preparation methods, structural characteristics, and biological activi...

RFC1: Motifs and phenotypes
Rev Neurol (Paris). 2024 Apr 15:S0035-3787(24)00484-3. doi: 10.1016/j.neurol.2024.03.006. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBiallelic intronic expansions (AAGGG)exp in intron 2 of the RFC1 gene have been shown to be a common cause of late-onset ataxia. Since their first description, the phenotypes, neurological damage, and pathogenic variants associated with the RFC1 gene have been frequently updated. Here, we review the various motifs, genetic variants, and phenotypes associated with the RFC1 gene. We searched PubMed for scientific articles published between March 1st, 2019, and January 15th, 2024. The motifs and phenotypes a...

Adverse childhood experiences, individual ‐level risk and protective factors, and recent drug use in a community sample of Nigerian women
AbstractAdverse childhood experiences (ACEs) are associated with a wide range of health problems and health-compromising behaviors, including drug use, but are understudied in sub-Saharan Africa. Further, some data suggest that some types of ACEs are more strongly associated with outcomes than others. We investigated associations between different types of ACEs and recent drug use among 2,011 women living in Katsina State, Nigeria. This community-based survey included questions on ACE exposure, modifiable individual-level risk and promotive factors, and past-year drug use. Tobacco, cannabis, and the nonmedical use of cough...

Patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis and refractory cough have traction bronchiectasis and distorted airway architecture: a retrospective case review study
The objective of this study was to investigate the clinical features of IPF patients with refractory cough and to clarify mechanisms for cough in these patients. We retrospectively reviewed the files of patients with the diagnosis of IPF at Kanazawa University Hospital and compared the clinical features of IPF patients with refractory cough with the clinical features of IPF patients without refractory cough. Among a total of 23 patients with IPF, 10 patients (43.5%) had chronic cough. Of the ten patients, seven patients had concomitant conditions that could lead to cough. Of these seven patients, the cough of four patients...
