Symptoms and Severity of COVID-19 in Patients with Immune-Mediated Inflammatory Diseases: Experience of a University Medical Center
CONCLUSION: Our IMID patients have a high rate of vaccination against SARS-CoV-2. Data show a significantly longer infection-free survival in vaccinated IMID patients as compared to unvaccinated patients. Discrimination between symptoms of COVID-19 and a concomitant inflammatory disease is difficult as complaints might be overlapping. This trial is registered with DRKS00028880.PMID:38571561 | PMC:PMC10990649 | DOI:10.1155/2024/6627035 (Source: Autoimmune Diseases)

Ruptured giant thoracic hydatid cyst presenting with respiratory symptoms
We present the case of a 22-year-old college student who presented with progressive dyspnea, chest pain, fever, cough, and hemoptysis. Imaging revealed a giant cystic lesion and “water lily” sign within the left hemithorax. A giant hydatid cyst was removed by posterolateral thoracotomy. Thorough history, physical examination, and appropriate imaging studies, are crucial for accurate diagnosis. Key messagePulmonary hydatid disease remains a global public health issue. Symptoms often result from cyst rupture, causing fever, cough, and hemoptysis. Radiographs may show homogeneous masses, air-fluid levels, or the pathognom...

A case report on multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS ‐C) associated with COVID‐19 infection
We report a case involving a fourteen-year-old male with COVID-19 infection who developed multisystem inflammatory disease. A previously healthy child presented with a history of 10  days of fever and cough, along with diarrhea, and vomiting for 3 days. His COVID-19 infection was confirmed through Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR), and the laboratory values were remarkable for high levels of C-reactive protein, D-dimers, B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP), and troponin I. He de veloped circulatory shock on the second day of the presentation and needed inotropic support. Steroids and intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) were s...

Bilateral synchronous double primary lung cancer: A case report
This study analyzed the clinical data of a patient with bilateral sDPLC, aiming to improve medical workers' understanding of the disease and avoid missed diagnosis and misdiagnosis.ABSTRACT: A 68-year-old male was admitted to the hospital with "intermittent cough and expectoration for two months." Enhanced chest computed tomography (CT) showed that the upper lobe of the left lung had a mass of high-density shadow, bronchial opening of the left lobe was thickened, lumen was narrow, and middle lobe of the right lung had a mass of high-density shadow. Severity of COVID-19 manifestations in HIV patients: a systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSIONS: PLWHs and HIV-negative individuals showed comparable rates and intensity of COVID-19. ART users exhibited immunological health comparable to immunocompetent people, demonstrating the essential role of ART in reducing the severity and mortality of PLWH with COVID-19.PMID:38567616 | DOI:10.26355/eurrev_202403_35763 (Source: Pharmacological Reviews)
