The role of the vascular surgeon in transcatheter aortic valve implantation
CONCLUSION: In our experience, Vascular Surgeon assistance in TAVI procedures was not infrequent and allowed safe and effective device introduction through challenging TF access. Similarly, the concomitant significant disease of other vascular districts could be safely addressed, potentially reducing postoperative related mortality and morbidity. The implementation of multidisciplinary team with interventional cardiologists and vascular surgeons should be encouraged whenever possible.PMID:38504140 | DOI:10.1177/17085381241237844 (Source: Vascular)

Triple platelet inhibition in intracranial thrombectomy with additional acute cervical stent angioplasty due to tandem lesion: a retrospective single-center analysis
Acute stroke treatment with intracranial thrombectomy and treatment of ipsilateral carotid artery stenosis/occlusion ( “tandem lesion”, TL) in one session is considered safe. However, the risk of stent restenos... (Source: BMC Neurology)

Changes in retinal vascular density measured by optical coherence tomography angiography in patients with carotid artery stenosis after carotid artery stenting and angioplasty
ConclusionOCTA could noninvasively detect retinal VD improvements after CASA in CAS patients. Quantitative changes in VD evaluated using OCTA are thought to be early indicators in the diagnosis of CAS and in the follow-up of treatment success. (Source: International Ophthalmology)

Implications of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Decision to Expand Indications for Carotid Artery Stenting
On October 11, 2023, the United States Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) released a recommendation stating that percutaneous transluminal angioplasty of the carotid artery concurrent with stenting is reasonable and necessary with the placement of a Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-approved carotid stent with an FDA-approved or cleared embolic protection device, for patients with ≥50% symptomatic (SxCS) or ≥70% asymptomatic (AsxCS) carotid artery stenosis.1 For both SxCS and AsxCS patients, CMS advised that prior to furnishing carotid artery stenting (CAS), the practitioner must engage in a formal share...

Coptisine inhibits neointimal hyperplasia through attenuating Pak1/Pak2 signaling in vascular smooth muscle cells without retardation of re-endothelialization
CONCLUSIONS: These results indicate that CTS is a promising medicine for prevention of post-angioplasty restenosis without adverse impact on re-endothelialization. CTS-directed suppression of pPak1S144/S203/pPak2S20/S197 and the subsequent effects on downstream pErk1T202/Y204/pErk2T185/Y187/pErk3S189 and pBadS136 underline its mechanisms of inhibition of VSMCs proliferation and stimulation of apoptosis. Therefore, the phosphor-sites of Pak1S144/S203/Pak2S20/S197 constitute a potential drug-screening target for fighting neointimal hyperplasia restenosis.PMID:38447436 | DOI:10.1016/j.atherosclerosis.2024.117480 (Source: Atherosclerosis)

Use of a large-bore 088 intracranial access support catheter for delivery of large intracranial devices: case series with the TracStar LDP in 125 cases
CONCLUSION: The TracStar LDP is an 0.088 inch 8Fr guide catheter that can establish direct intracranial access with an acceptable safety profile. This can be achieved in a wide range of neurointerventional cases with a high rate of technical success.PMID:38418227 | DOI:10.1136/jnis-2023-021054 (Source: Atherosclerosis)

A unique variation of the jugular veins and its clinical significance
Folia Morphol (Warsz). 2024 Feb 23. doi: 10.5603/fm.98618. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe authors report a rare variation of the anterior jugular and internal jugular veins in a 78-year-old male donor. An enlarged and curved left anterior jugular vein (AJV) was formed as the continuation of the left common facial vein (CFV). The left AJV's diameter was wider than the internal jugular vein (IJV) and measured around 5 mm greater than the IJV's diameter and a channel connected the two veins. The right AJV and CFV continued from the two divisions of the right facial vein. The right AJV's diameter was smaller than the right ...
