A Case of a Presurgical Abnormal Rhythm
Am J Nurs. 2024 Feb 1;124(2):58-60. doi: 10.1097/01.NAJ.0001006724.55411.8f.ABSTRACTEditor's note: This is the next installment in a series on electrocardiogram (ECG) interpretation. Nurses in all settings should know the basics, as medications and physiological changes can cause cardiac arrhythmias. Each article will start with a brief case scenario and an ECG strip and then take you step by step through analyzing the heart rhythm.PMID:38270428 | DOI:10.1097/01.NAJ.0001006724.55411.8f (Source: The American Journal of Nursing)

A New Player in the Game: Can Exergame Be of Support in the Management of Atrial Fibrillation?
Medicina (Kaunas). 2024 Jan 17;60(1):172. doi: 10.3390/medicina60010172.ABSTRACTAtrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common form of cardiac arrhythmia, currently affecting 2-3% of the world's population. Traditional exercise and physical activity interventions have been successfully implemented in the management of AF, with the aim of improving patients' quality of life and their exercise capacity, as well as reducing their mortality rate. Currently, new technology-mediated approaches to exercise, defined as exergame, have been shown to be successful in the delivery of exercise home-based interventions in patients with car...

Investigating the impact of smoking habits through photoplethysmography analysis
In this study, the impact of three smoking habits —cigarettes, shisha, and electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes)—on the features of the PPG signal were investigated. Approach. The PPG signals are measured for 45 healthy smokers before, during, and after the smoking session and then processed to extract the morphological features. Quantitative st atistical techniques were used to analyze the PPG features and provide the most significant features of the three smoking habits. The impact of smoking is observed through significant changes in the features of the PPG signal, indicating blood volume instability. Main results. T...
