ACE inhibitors on ACE1, ACE2, and TMPRSS2 expression and spheroid attachment on human endometrial Ishikawa cells
Reprod Biol. 2022 Jun 7;22(3):100666. doi: 10.1016/j.repbio.2022.100666. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) enters cells via receptor angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) and co-receptor transmembrane serine protease 2 (TMPRSS2). However, patients with SARS-CoV-2 infection receiving ACE1 inhibitors had higher ACE2 expression and were prone to poorer prognostic outcomes. Until now, information on the expression of ACE1, ACE2, and TMPRSS2 in human endometrial tissues, and the effects of ACE inhibitors on embryo implantation are limited. We found human endometria e...

Antihypertensive and Vasorelaxant Effects of < em > Citrus aurantifolia < /em > Linn. Fruit: Proposed Mechanisms
CONCLUSION: It is conceivable that extracts obtained from Citrus aurantifolia fruit produced hypotensive and antihypertensive effects in rats. The extract elicited endothelium-independent vasorelaxation, possibly by acting directly on smooth muscles of the coronary artery and by increasing cGMP and cAMP via nonselective inhibition of vascular PDEs.PMID:35646151 | PMC:PMC9142296 | DOI:10.1155/2022/5871424 (Source: Evidence-based Complementary and Alternative Medicine)

Cancers, Vol. 14, Pages 2602: A Potential New Treatment for High-Grade Glioma: A Study Assessing Repurposed Drug Combinations against Patient-Derived High-Grade Glioma Cells
In this study, we used two distinct patient-derived tumour fragments (tumour core (TC) and tumour margin (TM)) to generate a heterogeneous, clinically relevant in vitro model to assess if a combination of repurposed drugs (irinotecan, pitavastatin, disulfiram, copper gluconate, captopril, celecoxib, itraconazole and ticlopidine), each targeting a different growth promoting pathway, could successfully treat high-grade gliomas. To ensure the clinical relevance of our data, TC and TM samples from 11 different patients were utilized. Our data demonstrate that, at a concentration of 100µm or lower, all drug combin...

Non-Invasive Local Acoustic Therapy Ameliorates Diabetic Heart Fibrosis by Suppressing ACE-Mediated Oxidative Stress and Inflammation in Cardiac Fibroblasts
ConclusionOur results indicate that non-invasive local LIPUS therapy attenuated heart fibrosis and dysfunction in diabetic mice and the effect could be largely preserved at least 12 weeks after suspending LIPUS stimulation. LIPUS ameliorated diabetic heart fibrosis by inhibiting ACE-mediated NOX4-associated oxidative stress and NLRP3 inflammasome activation in cardiac fibroblasts. Our study may provide a novel therapeutic approach to hamper the progression of diabetic heart f ibrosis. (Source: Cardiovascular Drugs and Therapy)

Apparent mineralocorticoid excess: A diagnosis beyond classical causes of severe hypertension in a child
A genetic defect of 11 β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase causes apparent mineralocorticoid excess syndrome. Since 50 days of life, our patient was hospitalized several times for various reasons including hypokalemia. At the age of 3.3 years, she was diagnosed with severe hypertension (160/120 mmHg). She also had left ventricular hypertrophy and hypertensive retinopathy and referred to our center. Her renal function and electrolytes were normal except for hypokalemia. She was on captopril treatment; nifedipine and propranolol were added. Plasma renin and aldosterone concentrations were 1.13 pg/ml (1–8.2 pg/ml) and 12.2 ng...

Curable congestive heart failure in patients with primary aldosteronism: two cases reports
We report two male patients who were admitted because of severe cardiac systolic dysfunction induced by primary aldosteronism. Their cardiac function improved significantly after target therapy. Patient A was a 33 year old male with serum aldosterone concentration (PAC) 251.3 pg/ml, renin activity (PRA) 0.04 ng/ml/h, and aldosterone-to-renin ratio (ARR) 627.5. Computed tomography (CT) revealed a tumor in the left adrenal gland, while no dominant secretion function was found in the left side after the adrenal veins sampling (lateralization index 0.99). Bilateral adrenal hyperplasia was diagnosed and spironolactone was presc...
