Variation in Price of Cardiovascular and Diabetes Medicine in Indonesia, and Relationship with Quality: A Mixed Methods Study in East Java
Am J Trop Med Hyg. 2023 May 9:tpmd220692. doi: 10.4269/ajtmh.22-0692. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTLower-middle income Indonesia, the world's fourth most populous country, has struggled to contain costs in its mandatory, single-payer public health insurance system since the system's inception in 2014. Public procurement policies radically reduced prices of most medicines in public facilities and the wider market. However, professional associations and the press have questioned the quality of these low-cost, unbranded generic medicines. We collected 204 samples of four cardiovascular and one antidiabetic medicines from hea...

Interplay between the renin angiotensin system and oxidative stress contributes to alcohol addiction by stimulating dopamine accumulation in the mesolimbic pathway
Biochem Pharmacol. 2023 May 1:115578. doi: 10.1016/j.bcp.2023.115578. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe brain renin-angiotensin system (RAS) has recently been implicated in the development of substance abuse and addiction. However, the integrative roles of the two counter-regulating RAS arms, including the ACE1/Ang II/AT1R axis and the ACE2/Ang(1-7)/MasR axis, in alcohol addiction remain unclear. Using the 20% ethanol intermittent-access two-bottle-choice (IA2BC) paradigm, we observed significant alcohol preference and addictive behaviors in rats. Additionally, we observed significant disruption in the RAS and redox homeos...

We have developed a model of lupus-like cognitive impairment which is initiated when anti-DNA, anti-N-methyl D-aspartate receptor (NMDAR) cro...

All-trans retinoic acid inhibits oxidative stress via ACE2/Ang (1-7)/MasR pathway in renal tubular epithelial cells stimulated with high glucose
Drug Dev Res. 2023 Apr 28. doi: 10.1002/ddr.22070. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe aim of this study was to investigate the effects of all-trans retinoic acid (atRA) on oxidative stress in renal tubular epithelial cells induced by high glucose (HG) and its potential mechanism. We investigated the effects of atRA in HG-induced renal epithelial cell line HK-2. Seven groups were designed for this experiment: negative control, mannitol, high-glucose (HG), HG combined with a low concentration of atRA, HG combined with a middle concentration of atRA, HG combined with a high concentration of atRA, and HG combined with captopril...

LC-MS/MS Bioanalytical Method for the Quantitative Analysis of Nifedipine, Bisoprolol, and Captopril in Human Plasma: Application to Pharmacokinetic Studies
In this study, the development and validation of an accurate and highly sensitive LC-MS/MS method were performed for the estimation of nifedipine, bisoprolol, and captopril in real human plasma. Liquid-liquid extraction using tert-butyl methyl ether was efficiently applied for extraction of the analytes from plasma samples. The chromatographic separation was carried out using an isocratic elution mode on the X-terra MS C18 column (4.6 × 50 mm, 3.5 μm). The mobile phase consisted of methanol: 0.1 % formic acid (95:5, v/v) for determination of nifedipine and bisoprolol and acetonitrile: 0.1 % formic acid (70:30, v/v) for d...

Molecules, Vol. 28, Pages 3650: Synergism of Photo-Induced Electron Transfer and Aggregation-Induced Quenching Mechanisms for Highly Sensitive Detection of Silver Ion and Captopril
Zhongxia Wang Carbon-based nanoprobes, with excellent physicochemical performance and biocompatibility, are a kind of ideal nanomaterial for biosensing. Herein, we designed and prepared novel oxygen-doped nitrogen-enrichment carbon nanoribbons (ONCNs) with an excellent optical performance and uniform morphology, which could be used as a dual-mode fluorescence probe for the detection of Ag+ ion and captopril (Ctl) based on the synergism of photo-induced electron transfer and aggregation-induced quenching mechanisms. By recording the changes in fluorescent intensities of ONCNs, the Ag+ ion and Ctl concentrations can be e...

Exploration and characterization of a novel cocrystal hydrate consisting of captopril, an amino acid-derived drug
CrystEngComm, 2023, Advance Article DOI: 10.1039/D3CE00181D, PaperRyotaro Haku, Kazuhiko Takatori, Naoto Suzuki, Makoto Ono, Varin Titapiwatanakun, Toshiro Fukami We found a novel cocrystal consisting of captopril, which is an amino acid-derived drug having a thiol group, andL-proline by using nano-spot-screening with LF-Raman. This cocrystal hydrate showed high hygroscopicity resulted from changes in intermolecular interactions. To cite this article before page numbers are assigned, use the DOI form of citation above.
