Psoriasis Alba (White Psoriasis) of the Perianal Region
Skinmed. 2021 Oct 1;19(5):390-391. eCollection 2021.ABSTRACTA 40-year-old man presented with pruritic perianal lesions existing for 18 months, accompanied by frequent burning sensation on defecating. He had received oral fluconazole 150 mg weekly for a presumptive diagnosis of candidosis earlier. There was no history of other mucocutaneous lesions or comorbidities. The patient denied any unprotected sexual exposure or having anal intercourse. Examination revealed a well-defined perianal, horseshoe-shaped, white-colored macerated plaque with fissures on the gluteal cleft (Figure 1) with tenderness. Examination of scalp, nai...

Diagnosis of invasive fungal disease in coronavirus disease 2019: approaches and pitfalls
Purpose of review This review will comment on the current knowledge for the diagnosis of the main causes of COVID-19-associated invasive fungal disease (IFD); it will discuss the optimal strategies and limitations and wherever available, will describe international recommendations. Recent findings A range of secondary IFDs complicating COVID-19 infection have been described and while COVID-19-associated pulmonary aspergillosis was predicted, the presentation of significant numbers of COVID-19-associated candidosis and COVID-19-associated mucormycosis was somewhat unexpected. Given the range of IFDs and prolonged...

Oral Colonization and Virulence Factors of < em > Candida < /em > spp. in Babies With Cleft Palate
CONCLUSION: Candida spp. colonization occurred in all groups, being superior in CPwP group. Candidosis episodes were more reported in patients from CPwP than in other groups, although candidosis was also registered in other groups. Candida albicans was the predominant species and virulence factors did not exhibit any pattern for species or groups of patients.PMID:34259068 | DOI:10.1177/10556656211030437 (Source: The Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Journal)

Molecular Diagnosis of Yeast Infections
This article will review developments from the past decade in attempt to build on existing knowledge. It will highlight clinical performance and limitations while reviewing developments on recognized procedures; it will also provide insight into novel approaches incorporated in response to clinical demand (e.g.C. auris and antifungal resistance) or technological advances (e.g. next-generation sequencing).Recent FindingsLimited methodological standardization and, until recently, unavailability of commercial options have hindered the integration of molecular diagnostics for yeasts. The development of certain, novel commercia...

Incidence of premalignant changes in oral chronic hyperplastic candidosis (chc)
There has been an ongoing debate on the correlation between fungal infection and oral squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). Some argue that chronic hyperplastic candidosis (CHC) is a premalignant condition. However, the risk of malignant change in these lesions remains controversial, with limited evidence to support this.
