Heterogeneity in RAG 1/2 Deficiency: 35 Cases From A Single Center
This study aimed to define the clinical/laboratory spectrum of RAG1/2 deficiency. We retrospectively reviewed the clinical/laboratory data of 35 patients, grouped them as severe combined immunodeficiency (SCID), Omenn Syndrome (OS), and delayed-onset combined immunodeficiency (CID) and reported nine novel mutations. Male/female ratio was 23/12. Median age of clinical manifestations was 1 months (mo) (0.5-2), 2 mo (1.25-5), and 14 mo (3.63-27), age at diagnosis was 4 mo (3-6), 4.5 mo (2.5-9.75), and 27 mo (14.5-70) in SCID (n=25;71.4%), OS (n=5;14.3%), and CID (n=5;14.3%) patients, respectively. Common clinical manifestatio...

Stevens johnson syndrome: a case report
A 62-year-old man, in polimiositis treatment for 12 years with immunotherapy, was admitted to hospital to investigate a complaint of high fever for the past three days. Fifteen days before, he suffered a traumatic subdural hematoma surgery removal, after which he started to use antiepileptic drugs. Different cultures were prepared in blood, secretions, and liquor to identify an infectious agent. Despite no positivity, some antibiotics were introduced. On the eleventh day, he presented multiple ulcers in mouth and lips associated to white plaques, suggesting candidosis, dry and erithematous eyes, and exantema on the body. (S...

Cancers, Vol. 15, Pages 2107: New Perspectives on Primary Prophylaxis of Invasive Fungal Infection in Children Undergoing Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation: A 10-Year Retrospective Cohort Study
Conclusions: IFI occurrence was not higher in our cohort than what is reported in the literature with the use of systematic antifungal prophylaxis, with a good survival rate nonetheless. Thus, a prophylaxis could be considered for children with a high risk of IFI such as those aged over 10 years. (Source: Cancers)

Management of recurrent vulvovaginal candidosis: Narrative review of the literature and European expert panel opinion
Recurrent vulvovaginal candidosis (RVVC) is a chronic, difficult to treat vaginal infection, caused by Candida species, which affects women of all ages and ethnic and social background. A long-term prophylactic maintenance regimen with antifungals is often necessary. In most clinical practice guidelines, oral fluconazole is recommended as the first-line treatment. Although clinical resistance to antifungal agents remains rare, overexposure to azoles may increase the development of fluconazole-resistant C. albicans strains. In addition, non-albicans Candida species are frequently dose-dependent susceptible or resistant to ...

Prevalence and Risk Factors of Vulvovaginal Candidosis during Pregnancy: A Review
Infect Dis Obstet Gynecol. 2022 Jul 20;2022:6195712. doi: 10.1155/2022/6195712. eCollection 2022.ABSTRACTVulvovaginal candidosis (VVC) is a symptomatic vaginal yeast infection, especially caused by Candida spp. Although VVC is common among reproductive-age women, prevalence studies notice the uprise of vaginal Candida colonization to 30% during pregnancy by culture, especially in the last trimester. Recent studies have considered it a severe problem due to the emerging evidence showing the association of VVC with a higher chance of pregnancy-related complexities (e.g., preterm labor, premature rupture of membranes, congeni...
