Establishing short-term occupational exposure limits (STELs) for sensory irritants using predictive and < em > in silico < /em > respiratory rate depression (RD < sub > 50 < /sub > ) models
Inhal Toxicol. 2024 Jan 22:1-13. doi: 10.1080/08958378.2023.2299867. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTSensory irritation is a health endpoint that serves as the critical effect basis for many occupational exposure limits (OELs). Schaper 1993 described a significant relationship with high correlation between the measured exposure concentration producing a 50% respiratory rate decrease (RD50) in a standard rodent assay and the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH®) Threshold Limit Values (TLVs®) as time-weighted averages (TWAs) for airborne chemical irritants. The results demonstrated the potential...

Emotional dysregulation and its pathways to suicidality in a community-based sample of adolescents
Effective suicide prevention for adolescents is urgently needed but difficult, as suicide models lack a focus on age-specific influencing factors such as emotional dysregulation. Moreover, examined predictors ... (Source: Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Mental Health)

Distal periarterial sympathectomy surgery for chronic digital ischemia: A systematic review of the literature
CONCLUSIONS: This study indicates that distal periarterial sympathectomy may effectively treat chronic digital ischemia, offering pain relief and resolution of digital ulceration. However, risks of complications and amputation persist. Further research is required to inform patient selection and establish the optimal technique and extent of distal sympathectomy surgery, before it can be considered a valid treatment option.PMID:38179435 | PMC:PMC10762319 | DOI:10.1016/j.jor.2023.11.072 (Source: Atherosclerosis)

Menopausal hormone therapy and coronary heart disease: the roller-coaster history
Climacteric. 2023 Dec 6:1-8. doi: 10.1080/13697137.2023.2282690. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIn the USA it is estimated that more than one million women become menopausal each year. Coronary heart disease (CHD) is the leading cause of mortality in menopausal woman globally. The majority of perimenopausal to postmenopausal women experience bothersome symptoms including hot flashes, night sweats, mood liability, sleep disturbances, irregular bleeding and sexual dysfunction. While menopausal hormone therapy (HT) effectively treats most of these symptoms, use of HT has become confusing, especially related to CHD risk. Despit...
