Menopausal hormone therapy and coronary heart disease: the roller-coaster history
Climacteric. 2023 Dec 6:1-8. doi: 10.1080/13697137.2023.2282690. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIn the USA it is estimated that more than one million women become menopausal each year. Coronary heart disease (CHD) is the leading cause of mortality in menopausal woman globally. The majority of perimenopausal to postmenopausal women experience bothersome symptoms including hot flashes, night sweats, mood liability, sleep disturbances, irregular bleeding and sexual dysfunction. While menopausal hormone therapy (HT) effectively treats most of these symptoms, use of HT has become confusing, especially related to CHD risk. Despit...

Diagnostic criteria for Buerger's disease: International Consensus of VAS - European Independent Foundation in Angiology/Vascular Medicine
Int Angiol. 2023 Oct;42(5):396-401. doi: 10.23736/S0392-9590.23.05098-8.ABSTRACTBuerger's disease (BD) remains a debilitating condition and early diagnosis is paramount for its effective management. Despite many published diagnostic criteria for BD, selective criteria have been utilized in different vascular centers to manage patients with BD worldwide. A recent international Delphi Consensus Study on the diagnostic criteria of BD showed that none of these published diagnostic criteria have been universally accepted as a gold standard. Apart from the presence of smoking, these published diagnostic criteria have distinct di...

A 24-year-old multiparous woman with apparent subdural epidural catheter: diagnosis and management of an uncommon obstetric anesthesia complication
We present a multiparous woman who received labor epidural analgesia and later developed signs and symptoms of a subdural block. Spontaneous resolution occurred after supportive care and monitoring. After we replaced the epidural catheter, successful labor analgesia was subsequently achieved and the patient had an uncomplicated vaginal delivery.PMID:37829234 | PMC:PMC10566438 | DOI:10.1080/08998280.2023.2241162 (Source: Baylor University Medical Center Proceedings)

Senescent CD153+ T Lymphocytes Increase in the Peripheral Blood of Patients with Thromboangiitis Obliterans
CONCLUSION: Elevated frequencies of senescent CD4+CD57+CD153+ and CD4+CD57-CD153+ T cells in patients compared with non-smoker and smoker controls suggest the contribution of immunosenescence in TAO.PMID:37647581 | DOI:10.22034/iji.2023.99188.2622 (Source: Iranian Journal of Immunology)
