P.159 Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency in pregnancy: What ’s the anaesthetic plan?
Introduction: Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency (G6PD-D) is the most common enzyme deficiency worldwide.1Most people with G6PD-D are asymptomatic, but can develop acute haemolysis in response to oxidative stress. Infection, ingestion of fava beans and certain drugs can provoke oxidative stress and G6PD-D is further classified depending on severity. Class I is most severe (associated with chronic haemolytic anaemia); classes IV and V have normal/ increased enzyme activity. This has implications for how these patients are managed; several drugs might be safe for those with class V, but not for those with class 1. ...

Preliminary assessment of genotoxic effects induced by radiation from EAST using Vicia faba micronucleus assay
In this study, three positions in the EAST hall were selected to detect genotoxic effects induced by nuclear fusion radiation using a Vicia faba micronucleus (MN) test for the first time. The doses of neutrons and gamma rays at these places were measured by thermolum... (Source: Journal of Radiological Protection)

Paternal outcrossing success differs among faba bean genotypes and impacts breeding of synthetic cultivars
Theor Appl Genet. 2021 May 7. doi: 10.1007/s00122-021-03832-z. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTFaba bean genotypes showed significant and marked genetic differences in their success as pollen donors to cross-fertilized seeds. The findings may improve exploitation of heterosis in synthetic cultivars. In partially allogamous crops such as faba bean (Vicia faba L.), increasing the share of heterosis in a synthetic cultivar can improve yield and yield stability. The share of heterosis in such synthetic cultivars is increased by higher degrees of cross-fertilization. This trait is defined as percentage of cross-fertilized seeds a...

A computational study of structural differences of binding of NADP < sup > + < /sup > and G6P substrates to G6PD Mediterranean < sup > c.563T < /sup > , G6PD A- < sup > c.202A/c.376G < /sup > , G6PD Cairo < sup > c.404C < /sup > and G6PD Gaza < sup > c.536A < /sup > mutations
We reported on three G6PD variants in the Gaza Strip Palestinian population with differing clinical impacts and frequencies: G6PD Mediterraneanc.563T, African G6PD A-c.202A/c.376G, and G6PD Cairoc.404C. We also identified a novel G6PD missense (Ser179Asn) mutation c.536G > A "G6PD Gaza". In this work we explore the effect of these four genetic variants on the structural and substrate (NADP+ and G6P) binding characteristics of the G6PD enzyme using the Monte Carlo (MC) flexible docking and molecular dynamics (MD) simulation approaches. We report that G6PD A-c.202A/c.376G, G6PD Mediterraneanc.563T, G6PD Cairoc.404C and G6...

A novel 1,4-oxazine-xanthone derivative, fusarioxazin (4) and three known sterols (1-3) were separated from Fusarium oxysporum EtOAc extract associated with Vicia faba L. (broad bean, Fabaceae) roots. Their structural assignment was accomplished using various spectroscopic tools and comparing with literature data. The cytotoxic and antimicrobial potentials of the novel metaboli...
