Gastrointestinal and liver disease in patients with schizophrenia: A narrative review
World J Gastroenterol. 2022 Oct 14;28(38):5515-5529. doi: 10.3748/wjg.v28.i38.5515.ABSTRACTSchizophrenia is a severe mental illness which can have a devastating impact on an individual's quality of life. Comorbidities are high amongst patients and life expectancy is approximately 15 years less than the general population. Despite the well-known increased mortality, little is known about the impact of gastrointestinal and liver disease on patients with schizophrenia. We aimed to review the literature and to make recommendations regarding future care. Literature searches were performed on PubMed to identify studies related t...

Concurrent loss of MLH1, PMS2 and MSH6 immunoexpression in digestive system cancers indicating a widespread dysregulation in DNA repair processes
In this study, we retrospectively considered cases of different digestive system cancers (gastric cancer, ampullary cancer, small bowel cancer, colorectal cancer), which were immunohistochemically tested for dMMR within a 4-year period at our university hospital (n=352). Of the 103 cases showing dMMR, 5 cases (1.4% of all, 5.1% of dMMR cases) showed a concurrent loss of MLH1, PMS2 and MSH6 immunoexpression, whereas in the other 98 dMMR cases only one MMR heterodimer was affected. MLH1-/PMS2-/MSH6- cancer cases almost arose throughout the entire digestive tract: from the gastric antrum to the left colic flexur. To provide a...

Strategies to address barriers and improve bowel cancer screening participation in Indigenous populations, particularly in rural and remote communities: A scoping review
Health Promot J Austr. 2022 Oct 14. doi: 10.1002/hpja.672. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBACKGROUND: Participation in bowel cancer screening programs is low in Indigenous* Australian populations, particularly in rural and remote communities. There is growing evidence of strategies to increase screening rates among Indigenous Australians, however there is limited strategies specific to rural and remote communities.OBJECTIVE: This review aims to identify strategies that may increase bowel cancer screening rates among Indigenous populations, particularly in rural and remote communities.METHODOLOGY: A literature search was und...
