The 'hot zone policy' for colorectal cancer screening presents unique risks and opportunities for rural Australia
CONCLUSION: People living in affected areas would be negatively impacted by any NBCSP disruption, compounding existing inequities. However, well-timed health promotion could have a stronger impact.PMID:36912762 | DOI:10.1111/ajr.12977 (Source: The Australian Journal of Rural Health)

Increased Breast and Colorectal Cancer Risk in Type 2 Diabetes: Awareness Among Adults With and Without Diabetes and Information Provision on Diabetes Websites
CONCLUSIONS: There is low public awareness that T2DM increases the risk of developing breast and bowel cancers, even among people with T2DM, which may be partly due to limited information provision regarding T2DM-increased cancer risk from diabetes care providers and organizations.PMID:36892974 | DOI:10.1093/abm/kaac068 (Source: Annals of Behavioral Medicine)

Fundamentals of Bowel Cancer for Biomedical Engineers
Ann Biomed Eng. 2023 Feb 14. doi: 10.1007/s10439-023-03155-8. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBowel cancer is a multifactorial disease arising from a combination of genetic predisposition and environmental factors. Detection of bowel cancer and its precursor lesions is predominantly performed by either visual inspection of the colonic mucosa during endoscopy or cross-sectional imaging. Most cases are diagnosed when the cancer is already at an advanced stage. These modalities are less reliable for detecting lesions at the earliest stages, when they are typically small or flat. Removal of lesions at the earliest possible stage...

Economic impact of implementing optical diagnosis with a “resect and discard” strategy within the English Bowel Cancer Screening Programme: Findings from the DISCARD3 study
Advances in endoscopic technology, such as narrow band imaging and high definition colonoscopes, offer the potential for optical diagnosis (OD) with a “resect and discard” (RD) strategy for diminutive (≤5mm) and small (6-9mm) colorectal polyps. This could help alleviate the huge cost and time burden required for histopathology. The aim of this study is to conduct an economic analysis of a RD strategy within the English Bowel Cancer Screening Programme (BCSP). (Source: Gastrointestinal Endoscopy)
