Colonoscopy follow-up for acute diverticulitis: a multi-centre review
ConclusionRoutine colonoscopy for patients with uncomplicated diverticulitis is not a cost-effective strategy for colorectal cancer screening patients over 50  years. These patients should participate in the NBCSP with biennial FOBT instead. We suggest continuing routine endoscopic evaluation for patients with uncomplicated diverticulitis under 50 years and all patients admitted with complicated diverticulitis. The vulnerability of the human taenia coli to alterations in total collagen within the colon of the elderly
Acta Histochem. 2022 Oct 6;124(8):151958. doi: 10.1016/j.acthis.2022.151958. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe structure of the colonic wall relies on collagen, distributed within the submucosa and the muscularis externa. A recent analysis of total collagen in human ascending colon (AC) suggests that the muscularis externa is more susceptible to age-related increases in collagen among the elderly. However, it is not clear if this change also occurs in the descending colon (DC) or if the circular and longitudinal muscle layers are similarly affected in either region of colon. The aim of this study is to determine the total ...

Should you trust the radiologist?
Introduction A colonoscopy was performed in a 65-year-old asymptomatic patient with a positive faecal immunochemical test. Their only medical history was well-controlled asthma. The colonoscopy was performed by an experienced bowel cancer screening endoscopist. The examination found a lumen-filling lesion in the ascending colon (figure 1) just downstream to the ileocaecal valve. The lesion was hard to touch and biopsies were taken. The appearance was compatible with an eroding submucosal lesion. The endoscopist informed the patient of the likely diagnosis of cancer, and requested urgent imaging. The case was discussed in t...

Characteristics and outcome of patients with small bowel adenocarcinoma (SBA)
CONCLUSION: SBA showed a distinct epidemiology compared to colon cancer. Thus, data acquisition particularly on systemic treatment are paramount, with the objective to complement the available guidelines.PMID:36163558 | DOI:10.1007/s00432-022-04344-z (Source: Clinical Colorectal Cancer)

Survival outcomes associated with Lynch syndrome colorectal cancer and metachronous rate after subtotal/total versus segmental colectomy: Meta-analysis

Patient delay to diagnosis and its predictors among colorectal cancer patients: A cross-sectional study based on the Theory of Planned Behavior
CONCLUSIONS: Patient delay was considerable in individuals with colorectal cancer in China. Factors associated with patient delay are complex in Chinese culture. To shorten patient delay, culturally sensitive interventions may be required to improve knowledge, alleviate cancer stigma, enhance self-efficacy to seek medical attention, and promote positive help-seeking behaviors.PMID:35952459 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejon.2022.102174 (Source: European Journal of Oncology Nursing)
