Effectiveness and Tolerability of Bisoprolol/Perindopril Single-Pill Combination in Patients with Arterial Hypertension and a History of Myocardial Infarction: The PRIDE Observational Study
CONCLUSION: Treatment of symptomatic patients with CAD, hypertension, and a history of MI with a bisoprolol/perindopril SPC was associated with significant decreases in SBP/DBP and a high proportion of patients achieving BP treatment goals. This was accompanied by improvements in angina symptoms and reductions in HR in a broad patient population representative of those seen in everyday clinical practice.TRIAL REGISTRATION: ClinicalTrials.gov Identifier NCT04656847.PMID:37029871 | DOI:10.1007/s12325-023-02462-9 (Source: Adv Data)

Managing postoperative atrial fibrillation after open-heart surgery using transdermal β1 blockers
Postoperative atrial fibrillation (POAF) after open-heart surgery is a non-negligible complication. We aimed to describe the efficacy of a transdermal patch of bisoprolol for managing POAF and flutter in thora... (Source: Journal of Cardiothoracic Surgery)

α/β- and β-Blocker Exposure in Pregnancy and the Risk of Neonatal Hypoglycemia and Small for Gestational Age
CONCLUSIONS: Carvedilol administration during pregnancy was associated with neonatal hypoglycemia; however, it did not occur in a time- or dose-dependent manner. Routine monitoring of blood glucose levels in newborns exposed to α/β- and β-blockers is essential.PMID:36823100 | DOI:10.1253/circj.CJ-22-0647 (Source: Circulation Journal)

Prophylactic Agents for Preventing Cardiotoxicity Induced Following Anticancer Agents: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Clinical Trials
CONCLUSION: This meta-analysis showed that prophylactic treatment with cardio-protective drugs, including dexrazoxane, beta blocker, and ACEI drugs in patients undergoing chemotherapy with anthracycline, have a protective effect on LVEF and prevent EF drop.PMID:36803186 | DOI:10.2174/1574887118666230118102252 (Source: Reviews on Recent Clinical Trials)

Ambulatory Care Management in Low Blood Pressure Patient with HFrEF
Int J Angiol DOI: 10.1055/s-0043-1761271Heart failure (HF) affects an estimated 38 million people globally, with most published research estimating a prevalence of 1 to 2% of the adult population. Low blood pressure (BP) is reported in 10 to 15% of patients with HF in clinical trials, although this proportion is much more frequent in routine clinical practice. Low BP in outpatients has a better outcome compared to inpatients. Low BP is often a restricting factor in the use and uptitration of guideline-directed medical therapy (GDMT).A 57-year-old male presented himself to the HF clinic with complaints of bloating, shortnes...

Beta-Blockers for Primary Prevention of Anthracycline-Induced Cardiac Toxicity: An Updated Meta-Analysis of Randomized Clinical Trials
CONCLUSION: Treatment with beta-blockers prevents dilatation of the left ventricle, development of diastolic dysfunction, and reduction of LVEF. However, these hemodynamic effects do not translate into a significant reduction in CTRCD incidence and prevention of hospitalization for heart failure or cardiac death.PMID:36687509 | PMC:PMC9818032 | DOI:10.1155/2022/8367444 (Source: Cancer Control)

A Case of Speech-induced Atrial Tachycardia with Presyncope
Intern Med. 2022 Dec 28. doi: 10.2169/internalmedicine.1028-22. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTSpeech-induced atrial tachycardia (AT) with presyncope is extremely rare. A 52-year-old woman employed at a supermarket reported recurrent presyncope while speaking out loud at her job. Holter electrocardiography revealed AT while swallowing without presyncope. The patient's blood pressure decreased during AT, and she experienced presyncope while saying "IRASSHAIMASE" loudly during a tilt table test. Accordingly, bisoprolol 1.25 mg was prescribed, and the patient did not experience episodes of presyncope with recurrence of AT for ...
