Dogs Barking and Babies Crying: The Effect of Environmental Noise on Physiological State and Cognitive Performance
CONCLUSION: Exposure to the sound of crying babies and dogs barking leads to increased sympathetic response and decreased cognitive ability, as compared to exposure to control sounds. Special attention should be paid to the mitigation of exposure to these types of noises.PMID:38358240 | PMC:PMC10849013 | DOI:10.4103/nah.nah_16_23 (Source: Noise and Health)

COVID-19 Infection During Pregnancy and Hearing Loss in Infants: A Clinical Study
ConclusionThe prevalence of hearing loss in our study on babies born to mothers with COVID-19 infection during pregnancy is 0.005. Although these primary results from our study does not indicate any immediate effect of SARS-COV-2 maternal infection on neonatal hearing. More children need to be tested and followed up over an extended period of time to detect any possible delayed auditory effects. Those patients who were identified to have hearing loss in our study will have to be on long term follow-up as we see long terms effects on cognition, memory, heart health, etc. in COVID survivors.Level of evidenceLevel 1. Partial heart transplantation: a new option for paediatric heart valve replacement
Nature Reviews Cardiology, Published online: 23 January 2024; doi:10.1038/s41569-024-00991-6Heart valve replacement in newborn babies remains an unsolved problem because currently used heart valve implants do not grow. This lack of implant growth mandates serial re-operations until adult-size valve implants can be fitted. Partial heart transplantation is a new approach to solve this problem by transplanting only the part of the heart that contains the necessary valve. (Source: Nature Reviews Cardiology)

The Neonatal QRS Complex and Its Association with Left Ventricular Mass
We present reference values for QRS complex features and their association with LVMI in neonates from a larg e, unselected, population-based cohort. The QRS complex gradually evolved during the first month of life but had a low correlation with LVMI. Our results indicate a poor diagnostic value of using ECG features to identify LVMI outliers in neonates.Trial Registry Copenhagen Baby Heart, NCT02753348,https://clinicaltri-als.gov/ct2/show/NCT02753348?cond=Copenhagen+Baby+Heart&draw=2&rank=1, deidentified individual participant data will not be made available. Prenatal Detection and Postnatal Outcome of Persistent Left Superior Vena Cava and Agenesis of Ductus Venosus Associated with Postnatal Bovine Aortic Arch
CONCLUSION: DV agenesis and PLSVC are usually benign conditions but underlying serious heart diseases may accompany them. Therefore, in situations like ours, a prenatal aortic arch evaluation is of capital importance. Postnatal hemodynamic changes should be taken into consideration in the management of these cases. This is the first example in the literature that these abnormalities co-existed in one case.PMID:38122805 | DOI:10.1055/a-2219-9889 (Source: Zeitschrift fur Geburtshilfe und Neonatologie)
