Sofosbuvir (+) daclatasvir (+) ribavirin in Egyptian patients with hepatitis C virus: Therapeutic outcomes and the prognostic role of natural killer cells
CONCLUSION: NK cell activation following SOF (+) DCV (+) RBV therapy and polarization to cytotoxicity occurred early in HCV antiviral therapy and was elevated in the respondents. Our data illustrated that establishing an inhibitory cytotoxic NK profile is related to therapeutic outcomes.PMID:38447269 | DOI:10.1016/j.retram.2024.103443 (Source: Cell Research)

Chronic Hepatitis B in Women of Childbearing Age and Pregnant Women in China: A Cross-Sectional Study
Am J Trop Med Hyg. 2024 Mar 5:tpmd230217. doi: 10.4269/ajtmh.23-0217. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPregnant women and women of childbearing age were enrolled in our study and their knowledge about the Hepatitis B virus (HBV) and chronic hepatitis B (CHB) was evaluated. A questionnaire was distributed to every woman in the cross-sectional study. The questionnaire was answered by all participants before they received health education and advice about HBV and CHB from the doctors visited. Data collected from all answers were analyzed using the χ2 test and logistic regression models. A total of 206 pregnant women and women o...

Enhancing Efficacy and Quality of Life in Patients with Herpes Zoster Infection in Hairy Cell Leukemia
In this study, we present the case of a 71-year-old female patient with a previous diagnosis of variant HCL who experienced a severe herpes zoster infection leading to an extensive skin eruption. The patient's initial diagnosis of HCL occurred 7 years ago, and she underwent treatment with cladribine, interferon, COP (cyclophosphamide, vincristine, and prednisone), benztropine tablets + clarithromycin dispersible, and ibrutinib. Immune disorders resulting from repeated prior chemotherapy and targeted therapy may potentially precipitate herpes zoster infection. Despite an initial two-week period of unresponsiveness to antivi...

Point-of-care ultrasound to inform antiviral treatment initiation in chronic hepatitis B virus infection in low-resource settings – the PUSH protocol
ConclusionUltrasound can facilitate same-day initiation of antiviral therapy for chronic HBV monoinfection in a resource-limited setting and a streamlined protocol-driven liver ultrasound can be feasibly used by front line clinicians managing HBV. (Source: Critical Ultrasound Journal)

Longer-term Outcomes in Critically Ill Patients with COVID-19 in the REMAP-CAP Trial
Clinical question: What is the longer-term (180-day) mortality effect of common therapies on critically ill patients with COVID-19? Background: Most randomized clinical trials for patients with COVID-19 focus on short-term outcomes such as 28-day mortality or organ failure. Trials evaluating longer-term outcomes of therapeutic interventions are needed. Study design: Randomized adaptive-platform trial Setting: International multicenter trial (197 sites in 14 countries) Synopsis: 4,869 critically ill patients were enrolled from March 2020 through June 2021. Patients were randomized to one of six treatment arms (immune modula...

Use of Remdesivir in children with COVID-19: report of an Italian multicenter study
ConclusionOur experience indicates that RDV against SARS-CoV-2 is safe and well-tolerated in pediatric populations at high risk of developing severe COVID-19. Our data suggest that delaying RDV therapy after diagnosis of pneumonia may be associated with a longer duration of antiviral therapy, especially in patients with comorbidities. When to Stop Antiviral Therapy in HBeAg-Negative Patients with Chronic Hepatitis B?
AbstractPurpose of ReviewThe strategy of finite nucleos(t)ide analogue (Nuc) therapy in HBeAg-negative patients has been increasingly accepted globally, and when to stop therapy has become an important issue. This review aimed to address this issue.Recent FindingsThe incidence of off-therapy relapse is lower with lower end-of-therapy (EOT) HBsAg level. Pretherapy HBV DNA  <  20,000 IU/mL, on-treatment HBV DNA undetectable by week 12, treatment duration >  3 years, on-treatment HBsAg decline >  1 log10 IU/mL, and EOT HBsAg  <  100 IU/mL are also factors for increasing off-therapy HBsAg loss. O...
