Feasibility, safety, and efficacy of endovascular treatment of anterior cranial fossa dural arteriovenous fistulas: a systematic review and meta-analysis with a subanalysis for Onyx
AbstractDural Arteriovenous Fistulas (dAVFs) of the anterior cranial fossa (ACF) are uncommon but carry a high risk of hemorrhage and pose substantial treatment challenges. Recent advancements in endovascular treatment (EVT), including the introduction of novel liquid embolic agents, have markedly bolstered EVT ’s role in managing ACF-dAVFs, with notable series published in the last five years. We aimed to assess the feasibility, safety, and efficacy of EVT for ACF-dAVFs. We searched Medline, Scopus, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library databases following PRISMA guidelines. Eligible studies included tho se with ≥ 5 ...

Denile
A 51-year-old man presented with decreased vision, fever, confusion, headaches, agitation, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. Magnetic resonance imaging of the brain demonstrated bilateral T2 hyperintense lesions in the region of the mesial temporal lobe and optic radiations. There was a predominantly polymorphonuclear leukocyte pleocytosis in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) with hyperproteinorachia. A meningoencephalitis was diagnosed. Intravenous fluorescein angiography demonstrated a multifocal chorioretinitis that was in a linear pattern in the left eye. (Source: Survey of Ophthalmology)

Comparison of angiographic change in side-branch ostium after drug-coated balloon vs. drug-eluting stent vs. medication for the treatment of de novo coronary bifurcation lesions
ConclusionsIn de novo coronary bifurcation lesions, DCB treatment on the MV demonstrated favorable angiographic outcomes in the SB ostium at 6 –9 month follow-up compared to DES implantation or OMT. (Source: European Journal of Medical Research)

Young and Older Patients with Acute Myocardial Infarction: Differences in Risk Factors and Angiographic Characteristics
CONCLUSION: Younger patients with MI are more likely to be smokers with impaired PWV measures, presenting with non-obstructive or single-vessel disease, while they often remain undertreated. A better knowledge of the risk factors as well as the anatomic and pathophysiologic processes in young adults will help enhance MI prevention and treatment options in this patient population.PMID:38734305 | DOI:10.1016/j.hjc.2024.05.008 (Source: Hellenic Journal of Cardiology)

Improved stent sharpness evaluation with Super-Resolution deep learning reconstruction in coronary computed tomography angiography
CONCLUSIONS: SR-DLR produces images with lower image noise, leading to improved overall image quality, compared with HIR and DLR. SR-DLR is a valuable image reconstruction algorithm for enhancing the spatial resolution and sharpness of coronary artery stents without being constrained by hardware limitations.ADVANCED IN KNOWLEDGE: The overall image quality was significantly higher in SR-DLR, resulting in sharper coronary artery stents compared to HIR and DLR.PMID:38733576 | DOI:10.1093/bjr/tqae094 (Source: The British Journal of Radiology)

CONCLUSIONS: There was no apparent association between common trunk anomaly and HFS. It is suspected that some vascular anomalies other than a common trunk are involved in HFS.PMID:38734163 | DOI:10.1016/j.wneu.2024.05.004 (Source: Atherosclerosis)

3D Characterization of the Aortic Valve and Aortic Arch in Bicuspid Aortic Valve Patients
Ann Biomed Eng. 2024 May 11. doi: 10.1007/s10439-024-03527-8. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPatients with bicuspid aortic valve (BAV) commonly have associated aortic stenosis and aortopathy. The geometry of the aortic arch and BAV is not well defined quantitatively, which makes clinical classifications subjective or reliant on limited 2D measurements. The goal of this study was to characterize the 3D geometry of the aortic arch and BAV using objective and quantitative techniques. Pre-TAVR computed tomography angiogram (CTA) in patients with BAV and aortic stenosis (AS) were analyzed (n = 59) by assessing valve commissural ...
