Epicardial fat volume is associated with primary coronary slow-flow phenomenon in patients with severe aortic stenosis undergoing transcatheter valve implantation
Primary coronary slow flow (CSF) is defined as delayed opacification of the distal epicardial vasculature during coronary angiography in the absence of relevant coronary artery stenoses. Microvascular disease ... (Source: BMC Cardiovascular Disorders)

Ultrasound and computed tomography angiography diagnosis of fetal right atrial isomerism with cardiac total anomalous pulmonary venous connection and intestinal malrotation: a case report and literature review
AbstractRight atrial isomerism is a rare and severe isomerism. It is frequently associated with complex congenital heart disease and various extracardiac anomalies. Imaging diagnosis of right atrial isomerism is a challenge. Multisystem and complex anomalies in a 24-week-old fetus were diagnosed with prenatal ultrasound, postnatal computed tomography angiography (CTA), and autopsy. The ultrasound detected most major cardiovascular anomalies including right atrial isomerism and total anomalous pulmonary venous connection. The CTA further detected thoracic and abdominal malformations such as bilateral morphologically right b...

Distance to thrombus, ischemic lesion volume and clinical outcome after thrombectomy for M1 middle cerebral artery occlusion
CONCLUSION: Based on the findings, DT was identified as an independent albeit weak predictor for ILV and clinical outcomes in patients with MCA M1 occlusion who underwent EVT.PMID:38748063 | DOI:10.1007/s00508-024-02364-y (Source: Wiener Klinische Wochenschrift)

A Case of Coronary Artery Perforation Caused by Manual Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation in the Catheterization Laboratory
Int Heart J. 2024 May 15. doi: 10.1536/ihj.23-549. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is essential for the survival of cardiac arrest patients, but it can cause severe traumatic complications. In the catheterization laboratory, various physical constraints complicate the appropriate performance of CPR. However, we are not aware of reports of CPR complications in this setting. Here, we report a case of coronary artery perforation (CAP) caused by manual CPR in the catheterization laboratory. The patient, a 68-year-old woman, initially underwent successful percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI...

A Surviving Case of Myocardial Infarction with Ventricular Septal Rupture and Ventricular Aneurysm following Gastrointestinal Bleeding
Int Heart J. 2024 May 15. doi: 10.1536/ihj.23-586. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTA 55-year-old man presented to the emergency department with worsening shortness of breath 1 month after a gastrointestinal bleed. He had congestive heart failure, and an electrocardiogram suggested ischemic heart disease involvement. Echocardiography revealed a ventricular septal defect complicated by a left ventricular aneurysm in the inferior-posterior wall. Conservative treatment was started, but hemodynamic collapse occurred on the third day of admission and coronary angiography revealed a revascularizing lesion in the right fourth poster...

Anterior spinal cord syndrome from a spinal epidural hematoma following removal of an epidural catheter
CONCLUSION: Anterior spinal cord syndrome (ASCS) represents an uncommon neurologic manifestation of SEH, which is typically characterized by a triad of back pain and sensory and motor deficits. Although the initial CT scan was necessary to diagnose the postvascular surgery complication, it did not immediately detect the SEH. In cases of ASCS subsequent to thoracic epidural placement and removal, MRI is the preferred imaging modality for precise diagnosis and assessment of the need for surgical intervention. Despite adherence to anticoagulation guidelines, patients undergoing neuraxial anesthesia may face an elevated risk o...

Choriocapillaris reduction accurately discriminates against early-onset Alzheimer's disease
This study addresses the urgent need for non-invasive early-onset Alzheimer's disease (EOAD) prediction. Using optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA), we present a choriocapillaris model sensitive to EOAD, correlating with serum biomarkers.METHODS: Eighty-four EOAD patients and 73 controls were assigned to swept-source OCTA (SS-OCTA) or the spectral domain OCTA (SD-OCTA) cohorts. Our hypothesis on choriocapillaris predictive potential in EOAD was tested and validated in these two cohorts.RESULTS: Both cohorts revealed diminished choriocapillaris signals, demonstrating the highest discriminatory capability (area un...

Glue embolization of ruptured pseudoaneurysm secondary to reversible cerebral vasoconstriction syndrome: An illustrative case
CONCLUSION: This unique presentation of pseudoaneurysm secondary to RCVS in this patient highlights the impact of hemodynamic alteration as a possible source of bleeding and demonstrates a potential management strategy. Endovascular management with nBCA glue embolization successfully treated this lesion.PMID:38748537 | DOI:10.1177/15910199241251907 (Source: Interventional Neuroradiology)
