Attention financial enthusiasts: The Secure 2.0 Act
The SECURE 2.0 Act was passed into law in 2022, but takes effect as of 2024. This act allows funds from a 529 account to be transferred TAX-FREE to a Roth IRA for the beneficiary of the 529 account. This essentially allows you to kickstart a beneficiary’s Roth IRA savings in addition to the educational spending benefits that you get from a 529 plan. Important to know for those who aren't familiar with 529 plans is that the money contributed is post-tax, so for many of us this will... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Death aboard an airplane
Man dies mid-flight after breaking out in 'cold sweats' and losing 'liters of blood,' scaring his fellow passengers A witness told Blick, a German-Swiss news outlet, that "it was absolute horror" and "everyone was screaming" on board the Lufthansa flight. www.businessinsider.com Sounds like a decompensated cirrhotic with a massive UGIB. The article made it seem like the doctor on board was useless. Not sure what there is to do in this situation.. not like the airplane have a blood bank or carry the tools of a...

Hinsdale IL? And other near Chicago groups?
Long time since being on here but thought maybe someone can provide honest answers. Any opinions on the trajectory of the group located in Hinsdale, Illinois? All I know is that Northstar or some other AMC failed like 5-6 years ago and some of the old group is back in. Sort of worrisome that the hospital already tried this with the group and could do it again to them. And is their lifestyle (not compensation) good for someone looking to live in the West Loop? I’ll take less for less calls... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Mega backdoor Roth
I know my anesthesia people are very business and financially savvy, so this is for those of you who have done this or know a lot about it… From my understanding, your job needs to allow two things to take advantage of this: 1.) in plan conversions 2.) after tax contributions Have any of you found it difficult to find jobs that provide these details in the 401k plans? Interscalene for shoulders: Concentrated vs dilute local?
I grew up giving people a dead arm for 18ish hours. A colleague of mine is advocating for low concentration blocks that give partial analgesia only; he states when patient's wake up they are comfortable, but don't have the dead/freaky sensation. He reckons they discharge early and cope fine. I'm all for it, but in my mind I block them deep because it lasts longer. Not necessarily for the depth aspect; that's an unwelcome, but acceptable side effect. I feel that using lower concentrations... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)
