Come back home to Illinois?
I’m out east, and looking for jobs around Chicago. Lotta places got nuked. Anybody know places that are like 40 hours truly every week? Maybe one weekend call every six weeks. I’m not interested anymore at the 55 hour work week. Any part-time work in a hospital that’s not lotta late calls? Heard the Northwestern hospitals do it. Saw advocate stuff but heard the calls were ****ty. Minimal supervision garbage. Don’t want ASC for now. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Doctor ’s Day, do you know the history?
Unfortunately, most do not know the history behind doctor’s day. Doctors’ Day has a special connection to anesthesiology, as it first honored the efforts of Crawford W. Long, M.D. On March 30, 1842, Dr. Long administered the first ether anesthetic for surgery and operated to remove a tumor from a patient’s neck. After the surgery, the patient revealed that he felt nothing and was not aware the surgery was over until he awoke. Doctors’ Day celebrates Dr. Long’s historic achievement, as well... Disability Insurance key points?
I'm my first year as an attending. Little bit older and in California. HTN, prediabetes, and some high cholesterol on my chart. Residency....am I right? I'm late to the game, I know. I got some quotes from guardian. They seem to give me two options for each option if that makes sense. Perhaps the people with Guardian can weigh in. 5k = $250-$420/mo 7.5k = $275-$490/mo 7.5k = $320-$570 /mo My questions: 1) Can I get better rates somewhere else? 2) What are buzz words, riders, or items I... UChicago vs Emory vs Baylor
Hey everyone! I have narrowed down my school choices to my top 3 and need a little bit of help with this decision. I am undecided on a specialty to pursue but I know I will do something competitive as I have an interest in ortho, ENT, and anesthesia. I have lived in Texas all my life and ultimately probably will return here to practice but I don't think any of these schools would prevent me from doing so. Lastly, Baylor and Emory have yet to release any aid but I don't expect much from... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Accidental facial nerve injection
ER doc here. Saw a patient the other day, sent by ambulance from the dentist without any paperwork or anything. According to the patient he was sent because he started having facial swelling and trouble talking. By the time I saw him, it was roughly 2 hours after he had received local anesthetic and the symptoms started. He did have some right sided facial droop and slurred speech, but otherwise normal exam. Perhaps a little uvula deviation away from the affected side, but minimal if... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Locum Cancellation
Hi, I’m relatively new to the locum game. My first big assignment cancelled on me 7 weeks out from the start date. Apparently 20 other docs were similarly informed yesterday. The reasoning given was that the hospital is moving to a direct hire process. It’s not the end of the world, but it is frustrating with the time I have already invested in credentialing process. Thankfully I have other gigs I should be able to fall back on for now. Can any of y’all chime in on how often this situation... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Leaving the hospital for ASC?
Anybody work in a hospital for like 10 years and then thought “F weekends and call” to go to ASCs. You wish that you stayed? Trouble going back since haven’t done certain cases in years like OB? Credentialing problems? Bad stuff about ASCs? I’m thinking I may ditch the hospital but is that short sighted when I have another 20 years to go? I’m also in major metro area. VIRMP Choosing Internships
I am looking for some advice from anyone willing to help! I am applying for a SA Rotating this next cycle and already started looking at places so I can have an idea of where I am interested prior to 4th year clinics. I'm interested in Anesthesiology post internship and have a list of maybe 40 places that would have boarded anesthesiologists on staff while I am there. On this list I made note of the average cost of living according to VIRMP and am comparing it to the salaries and based on... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

"Not notified"
If a CRNA does not let you know they are starting a case, or waking up, despite communicating with them that they should let you know about these events... what is your culpability if something goes wrong? Does writing "I was not notified of induction/spinal/emergence/etc" protect you in any way? How about the communication request to notify me? (Source: Student Doctor Network)
