Am I in a good position to potentially match Anesthesia/General Surgery assuming step 2 is good
Hi everybody, I am wondering what my chances of matching anaesthesia or general surgery from a low tier MD school. I know that both have become more competitive recently. The school does not have a home program for either. Stats: Top 10% of class (eligible for AOA so far but not sure if I’ll be nominated 2 publications (one first author, one mid). No Anesthesia publications. unlikely to be able to get anesthesia specific research. 8 presentations/abstracts What else can I do to... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Matthew Perry Ketamine overdose
According to the toxicologist, he had “general anesthetic” levels of ketamine in his blood and that trace amounts were found in his stomach, however his last infusion was 1.5 weeks prior. So did he overdose on oral ketamine??? Also therapeutic levels of buprenorphine found. Curious to hear your thoughts. I personally view oral ketamine and buprenorphine a rather benign combination as far as accidental overdose risk goes. So tragic. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Intubation expertise
How many intubations ( Dl ) did it took for you to have 90%+ success rate on the first pass? I'm currently on anesthesia rotation and I feel that I may be the worst resident they ever had, after approximately ~20 attempts, at best I'm able to get 30% of the tubes. I'm constantly trying to seek feedback and try to modify/improve technique in some way, though now I started to think that I may be don't have what it takes to become truly proficient at this procedure. Will pain come back around?
Hi All, Currently resident looking into pain and have been seeing a lot of posts about the current state of pain- slashed reimbursement, saturation in desirable cities, etc. I also have seen a lot about anesthesiologists flocking back to the OR give the insanity of their job prospects atm. As many of these things work sort of sinusoidally, my question is- do we think pain will come back around? Is there a future where older pain docs get fed up with slashed reimbursements and retire en... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Anesthesia residents that are planning on doing a pain fellowship, what made you want to?
M2 here just considering going into anesthesia and potentially pain, and was wondering what made you want to go into pain since I know the day to day is quite different from general anesthesia. Also, did you always plan on going into pain and you just had to get through anesthesia residency? Or was it something you realized after starting residency. If you always knew you wanted to do pain, was there a reason you went the anesthesia instead of PM&R or other route? Thanks so much for your... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)
