Best specialties for people with ASD?
Hi everyone! Currently thinking about specialties as an incoming M1 and I've been trying to look on forums to see which specialties tend to be accommodating for people with ASD. However, most specialties people tend to bring up don't involve patient interaction, like anesthesiology or radiology. I typically enjoy patient interaction and being around people but have poor experience with social cues and settling into a normal conversational tone. Are there any specialties that are suitable for... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Forget how much to retire, WHERE to retire
we’re all anesthesiologists here, we’re gonna have 5, 10, 15+ million So my question is WHERE to retire. My wife wants hot weather and some charm and/or walkability. I want a very large airport within a couple hours and the ability to play golf without fighting crowds or doing a massive membership wait list (rules out Scottsdale and Orlando). Drivable to some sort of ski resort would be a big bonus. I’m wondering about Palm Springs, although you would definitely have to get out during... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Johns Hopkins ($0 Debt) vs WashU ($0 Debt) vs Duke (Will Have to Take out ~45k/Per Year in Loans)
As the 04/30 deadline approaches, I become increasingly torn between these three schools. I’m leaning more toward Hopkins, and I’ll explain why below. In terms of specialty I would like to pursue, I’m still undecided, but I feel like I want to look into internal medicine, emergency medicine, psychiatry, or anesthesiology. Throughout medical school, residency, and my physician career, I want to be able to have a good amount of time to spend with my aging parents and my loved ones. For me... Supportive colleagues in PP?
Been talking to a lot of people about PP and academics in IL. Anybody have a supportive environment in either one? Lot of it seems like fend for yourself. They don’t care if you make a mistake in a new place. Who has a good change without lot of judging and getting acclimated? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Is toronto dental anesthesia program worthwhile to apply? Are these rumours true?
Hey, so I'm a third-year dental student here in Canada, and I'm really into the idea of specializing in dental anesthesia. Based on my understanding toronto is the only school in Canada that offers this. I've been hearing some stuff about the program that's making me second-guess whether I should apply or not. I heard that students are always delayed graduation. One person who was supposed to graduate in 2023 but hasn't yet, and nobody seems to know why. There are no students in the class of... Adjusting to higher acuity?
Was talking with an old resident colleague. She has mostly been dealing with ASA2 and 3s. Now she is worried to take a job that is mostly ASA3 sometimes more with surgeons who want to start doing more complex stuff. Who out there has dealt with the transfer and adapted? Who felt that the switch was too much and then left in a short time? How much of this comes down to the new coworkers assisting you a lot? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Nitro/verapamil for radial a-lines
I believe @pgg and @PpfSuxTube mentioned this in another thread and I wanted to have one to discuss this topic. How many people do this? What doses do you use? I know our vascular people do 200mcg of nitro and 1mg of verapamil into their sheaths to dilate. For people who inject nitro peri-arterial with the local do you get any hypotension? Not sure how much or if any would be absorbed or go systemically. I'm thinking for the sick tiny artery people this may be of some benefit... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Travel CME--Tax Deductions
What is the general wisdom on the legality of these deductions? From what I understand, some people sign up for an online CME course and travel to a vacation destination of their choosing to complete it and deduct that travel expenses on taxes. To me, this doesn't seem like it would pass the "ordinary and necessary" criteria for business expenses. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

UICOM (Chicago) vs. Georgetown
Hi everyone, I’m grateful for the acceptances and thank everyone here for all the help throughout the cycle. I’m waitlisted at my dream school, so currently choosing between Georgetown and UICOM. As context, am interested in surgery (or anesthesia). Georgetown (Tuition: $67k/yr) Pros: +++ Pass/Fail for first two years AND core clinical rotations, tiered grading for the last phase, no AOA: I am super neurotic about 3rd year. I’m introverted, so it may take me time to get comfortable... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Considering prescribing HRT?
I’ve started to go down a rabbit hole of perimenopausal/menopausal symptoms and treatment. This topic was not discussed much in medical school, (obviously not my training in anesthesia). Every month there’s new literature that comes out that fascinates me. It’s made me wonder if these mid 40 year olds with fibromyalgia type symptoms should try progesterone/estradiol replacement therapy to see if it helps their symptoms. Perimenopause and fibromyalgia seem almost identical in presentation it... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

New TPI restrictions?
well CMS is at it again! making our jobs harder with every new LCD update. this time trigger point injections are coming under fire. you know, because a $50 reimbursement is really breaking their bank. Anyway, the part that has me most concerned is this line about limitations below. it looks like they are only allowing TPI with local anesthetics. while not specifically calling out steroids, "Any other injectate" seems very vague and could include steroids in my opinion which sucks because in...
