Death by nitrogen hypoxia
Anyone read about Alabama’s planned execution next week with nitrogen gas? Alabama execution using nitrogen gas could "amount to torture" and violate human rights treaties, U.N. warns The inmate, Kenneth Eugene Smith, already survived a botched execution attempt by lethal injection in 2022. www.cbsnews.com Apparently they couldn’t do the lethal injection because they couldn’t establish an IV. They will fit a mask over his face and then pump in nitrogen gas for 15 mi...

Buy in still a thing in current market?
Straightforward question. Do groups nowadays still have a buy in/partnership track? Or is that mostly a relic of the past? What about your group? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Help with rank list, please!
Hello, I have been very fortunate to get interviews at a lot of good programs. I am struggling though with ranking the following ones: Cedars-Sinai UC Davis USC UCI Loma Linda U Colorado OHSU They are listed in no particular order. As of now, after graduation I would like to do 1-2 fellowships (cardiac+peds, or cardiac+liver, crit care+cardiac or other combos). I am sure it may change in the future but I need to make a rank list based on today's info. The plan at the end would be to... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Cardiac Team models
Looking for examples of how other groups with dedicated heart teams take call and all the other logistics. Our hospital/CT surgeons are pushing us to create a dedicated heart team separate from the generalists. They want 4 first starts for the CT surgeons and 1 cath lab daily. One of the CT surgeons is new and will be ramping up a heart failure program with significant increases in numbers of ecmo and LVAD placement. How many anesthesiologists would you recommend? How should we split... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

What ’s happening in Memphis
I’ve noticed a huge surge in locums postings for Memphis. One states they need 15 FTEs. Does anyone know what is going on and/or have information on both what group(s) lost their place and which of the PE monstrosities is taking over? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Hypoglycemia from intermittent fasting??
I am an anesthesiologist so I’m looking for insight from my IM colleagues, especially endocrine. My golf buddy claims that he occasionally gets hypoglycemia late in the morning when intermittent fasting. Totally healthy, non overweight 45 year old. No meds. Fasts from 6 pm to 10 am. Says he gets visual disturbances that sound like scotoma, maybe some lightheadedness. Reverses with food. Worse if exercise before food. Seems like healthy pancreas/glucogon would prevent this, am I wrong? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Anesthesia PGY2/CA1 track residency list
Hi everyone, I will be applying for the 2025 anesthesia match for a direct CA1 spot. I am interested to know if there is a specific list of residency programs which offer these spots under the reserved track? Or does it change with every year depending on their availability and I just have to go to their individual websites for the next match season. Thank you for your time (Source: Student Doctor Network)

AZCOM vs KansasCOM
Hey y'all! I am thankful to be holding acceptances from two schools currently, one that is much closer to home and one that is much more established. I am from Missouri, and my partner will be finishing up their fourth year of professional school there while I am beginning medical school, so being close to home would be great. However, I would like to keep my options for residency as open as possible, as I am currently interested in specialties of higher competitiveness (think anesthesia and... Love my Job - BUT VHCOL making it Extremely Tough!!
Hello all! About 2.5 years in practice now. I love my job. It has a great breath of cases, great colleagues, great staff, etc. I make decent money, total comp is about $600k (total comp including 401k, insurance, etc) a year and the buy in was almost insignificant. I just don't know that we will ever make it financially here. My wife and I save about $12k a month after maxing out our 401ks, spending $7k on rent, and other expenses. Children are on the way and we want a house. We have... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Rate this job listed on gaswork?
GasWork.com - Reference #424478 Reference #424478 www.gaswork.com Looks like the base salary is 600k. I wonder if that includes the 4 night calls per week AND the one weekend per month calls? They don't specify if it's 24 hours or if you come in at 3 or so and whether or not you get pre or post-call day off. Listing mentions 10 or 12 hour shifts which has me wondering if it's like that EVERY day of the week. Anybody have any insight into this job? The pay seems great but I wonder if there is a catch Position... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)
