Effects of tranquilization therapy in elderly patients suffering from chronic non-communicable diseases: A meta-analysis
Acta Pharm. 2023 Jan 24;73(1):43-57. doi: 10.2478/acph-2023-0003. Print 2023 Mar 1.ABSTRACTThe current meta-analysis searched the literature connected to different tranquilizers used to treat elderly people and assessed it in terms of dose, types of outcomes and adverse effects, to determine a safe and acceptable tranquilizer and its optimal dose. A systematic literature review was undertaken for randomized controlled trials, case-control, retrospective and prospective studies on the use of tranquilizers in elderly patients, using PubMed, Ebsco, SCOPUS and Web of Science. PICOS criteria were used to select studies, and per...

Anhedonia modulates benzodiazepine and opioid demand among persons in treatment for opioid use disorder
ConclusionAnhedonia (positive-affective deficit) robustly predicted increased BZD and opioid demand; these factors could modulate treatment response. Routine assessment and effective treatment of anhedonia in populations with concurrent opioid and sedative use disorder may improve treatment outcomes.Clinical trial registrationhttps://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT03696017, identifier NCT03696017. Molecules, Vol. 27, Pages 8894: Compritol-Based Alprazolam Solid Lipid Nanoparticles for Sustained Release of Alprazolam: Preparation by Hot Melt Encapsulation
Kashif ur Rehman Khan The current study was designed to investigate the feasibility of incorporating the water-insoluble lipophilic drug Alprazolam (Alp) into solid lipid nanoparticles (SLNs) to offer the combined benefits of the quick onset of action along with the sustained release of the drug. Therefore, compritol-based alprazolam-loaded SLNs (Alp-SLNs) would provide early relief from anxiety and sleep disturbances and long-lasting control of symptoms in patients with depression, thereby enhancing patient compliance. The optimized Alp-SLNs analyzed by DLS and SEM showed consistent particle size of 92.9 nm with PI va...

Recent advances in the detection of drugs of abuse by Dried Blood Spots
Biomed Chromatogr. 2022 Nov 23:e5555. doi: 10.1002/bmc.5555. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPurpose of this review study is to sum up the main recent advances reported in the scientific literature about the detection of common drugs of abuse in biological samples upon their collection by Dried Blood Spot (DBS) devices. The most recent, innovative and fully validated methods for the qualitative and/or quantitative detection of common drugs of abuse are reported, including alprazolam, clonazepam, diazepam, 3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA), 3,4-methylenedioxyamphetamine (MDA), 3,4-methyl- enedioxyethylamphetamine (MDEA...

Clonazolam Intoxication Case Report: Danger of Designer Benzodiazepines
We present this case to aid in the recognition of novel benzodiazepines by medical examiners and coroners, to encourage their consideration in suspected Xanax and other substance related investigations, and to be aware of the capabilities of toxicological testing to improve novel benzodiazepine identification and subsequent interpretation. Collaborative permeation of drug and excipients in transdermal formulations. In vitro scrutiny for ethanol:limonene combinations
Eur J Pharm Biopharm. 2022 Nov 13:S0939-6411(22)00261-2. doi: 10.1016/j.ejpb.2022.11.004. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTEnhancement of skin permeation of drugs is affected by the simultaneous co-permeation of excipients that hinder the predictivity of in vitro tests. The collaborative effects of two permeation enhancers (ethanol and d-limonene) of a lipophilic drug (alprazolam) have been simultaneously assessed in human skin under different in vitro conditions: integrated setups of diffusion cell experiments with selective concentration gradients of permeants (asymmetric) or without (symmetric) have been combined with coad...
