Prediction of herb –drug interaction between hyperforin and sedative hypnotics (zolpidem, alprazolam, and midazolam) using physiologically-based pharmacokinetic modeling
ConclusionsThese findings emphasize the importance of careful monitoring and dose adjustments when using hyperforin and sedative hypnotics together. This study provided insights into co-administration of hyperforin and sedative hypnotics, facilitating the safe and effective use of these medications. Based on these results, it is necessary to know the possibility of safer drug combination, and to conduct clinical research and verification on this. (Source: Molecular and Cellular Toxicology)

Comparing AGS Beers 2019, STOPP version 2, and EU(7)-PIM list in Portuguese older adults in primary health care
ConclusionThis study reveals varying prevalence rates of PIM in older adults, as assessed by different criteria, and highlights the need for targeted interventions and improved prescribing practices. In the future, studies should focus on the occurrence of negative outcomes in older adults associated with PIM consumption. (Source: European Journal of Clinical Pharmacology)

Alprazolam Reduces Freezing of Gait (FOG) and Improves FOG-Related Gait Deficiencies
Parkinsons Dis. 2024 Jan 9;2024:3447009. doi: 10.1155/2024/3447009. eCollection 2024.ABSTRACTBACKGROUND: Freezing of gait (FOG) is an intractable motor symptom in Parkinson's disease (PD) that increases fall risk and impairs the quality of life. FOG has been associated with anxiety, with experimental support for the notion that anxiety itself provokes FOG. We investigated the effect of acute anxiety reduction via alprazolam on FOG in PD.METHODS: In ten patients with PD, FOG, and normal cognition, we administered 0.25 mg alprazolam in one session and placebo in another, in counterbalanced order. At each session, on separate...
