The chemical composition of the aerial parts' essential oil of < em > Geocaryum capillifolium < /em > (Guss.) Coss growing in Sicily (Italy)
Nat Prod Res. 2023 Dec 8:1-5. doi: 10.1080/14786419.2023.2289082. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe three genera Geocaryum Coss., Conopodium W.D.J. Koch, and Bunium L. are closely related, and their correct identification is complex. The first two genera are distributed in Europe and North Africa, while several Bunium species also occur in Asia. In the present study, we analysed the chemical composition of the essential oil of the aerial parts of Geocaryum capillifolium (Guss.) Coss. a rare species collected in Sicily, which also grows in the Iberian Peninsula, Algeria, and Greece, was analysed using GC-MS. The main consti...

Indigenous microalgae strains characterization for a sustainable biodiesel production
This study identified and analyzed indigenous microalgae strains for biodiesel production, specifically Chlorella vulgaris and Coelastrella thermophila var. globulina, from two distinct locations in Algeria. Molecular identification confirmed their identity, and the microalgae exhibited notable growth characteristics. Local Chlorella vulgaris and Coelastrella thermophila var. globulina showed a good growth and high biomass yield, compared to Chlorella vulgaris CCAP211/11B reaching a weight of 1.48 g/L, 1.95g/L and 2.10 g/L, respectively. Lipids content of local Chlorella vulgaris, Coelastrella thermophila var. globulina, a...

Pathways to sustainability: how China's Belt and Road Initiative is shaping responsible production and consumption in Africa
This study evaluates the BRI's role in achieving Africa's Twelve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and catalyzing responsible consumption and production. Through interviews and focus group discussions (FGDs) involving 42 participants from 19 African countries, thematic patterns emerged using the thematic inductive method. Findings indicate that BRI initiatives effectively integrate advanced technologies to enhance sustainable agriculture and industrial production. Notably, BRI investments in countries like Morocco, Algeria, Ethiopia, Kenya, and Zambia are fostering renewable energy projects to provide electricity to und...

Viruses, Vol. 15, Pages 2374: First Report of Low Pathogenic Avian Influenza Subtype H9N2 in African Houbara Bustards (Chlamydotis undulata undulata) and Gamebirds in Morocco: Clinico-Pathological Findings, Molecular Characterization, and Associated Coinfections
In conclusion, LPAIV H9N2 is circulating in houbara bustards and gamebirds in Morocco, and house sparrows might be a possible source of the infection. To our knowledge, this is the first report of LPAI H9N2 in the African species of houbara bustards worldwide and in gamebirds in Morocco. (Source: Viruses)

Iodine nutritional status in women of reproductive age in algeria
Rationale: Iodine is a trace element whose adequate intakes are essential for thyroid function. It is a key part of the thyroid hormones needed for many body processes including growth, metabolism, reproduction and for the development of a baby ’s brain. A deficiency can lead to thyroid disorders. Historically, endemic goiter and cretinism affected northern regions of Algeria, and iodized salt was introduced in 1990. However, there has been no national study of iodine nutrition in Algeria since 1994. (Source: Clinical Nutrition ESPEN)

HPR207 Moving to Outcomes-Based Agreements in Algeria: Sharing Experiences Between Saudi Arabia and Algeria
Adoption of outcomes-based agreements (OBAs) is important for any health care reform. Algerian payers need OBAs to stratify populations and identify specific interventions that can improve patient outcomes. In Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), the use of OBAs is expanding (22 ongoing OBAs). The OBAs conducted in KSA by Ministry of Health (MoH) and renewed every 3 years after settling the price controlled by NUPCO. Algeria is eager to learn from Saudi development experience. The aim of this study was to identify the challenges and the recommendations for implementation of OBAs in Algeria. (Source: Value in Health)
