Establishment of biochemical and hematological profiles of dromedary camel (Camelus dromedarius) under extensive and intensive production systems
AbstractIn Algeria, camel husbandry is undergoing a shift from a traditional extensive system to one  more intensive. Such a move in the production system of the dromedary camel should be well investigated in terms of animal welfare, health, and production status. The main objective of this study was to define and evaluate the effects of production systems on physiological responses (hematological and biochemical parameters) inSahraoui dromedary camels to understand possible changes caused by intensive livestock farming. We analyzed the biochemical and hematological blood profiles inSahraoui dromedary camel to evaluate an...

Natural clines and human management impact the genetic structure of Algerian honey bee populations
CONCLUSIONS: The differences between the two main genetic clusters suggest differential breeding management between eastern and western Algeria, with greater exchange of genetic material over long distances in the east. The lack of detected admixture events suggests that, unlike what is seen in many places worldwide, imports of queens from foreign countries do not seem to have occurred on a large scale in Algeria, a finding that is relevant for conservation purposes. In addition, the proposed panel of 96 markers was found effective to distinguish Algerian from European honey bees. Therefore, we conclude that applying this ...

Exploring the environmental and economic impact of fruits and vegetable loss quantification in the food industry
Environ Sci Pollut Res Int. 2023 Dec 19. doi: 10.1007/s11356-023-31311-z. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPopulation growth has stimulated rising demand for agro-food products and economic activity for many years, negatively impacting the ecosystem and non-renewable resource consumption. Algeria confronts the monumental challenge of effectively choosing how to nourish everyone on a more congested globe. However, food loss is a significant issue that worsens as Algerians' population expands and food consumption increases. In Algeria, food production and processing of food items, which include fruits, vegetables, and cereals, ...

Insights into Genomic Features and Potential Biotechnological Applications of < em > Bacillus halotolerans < /em > Strain HGR5
Pol J Microbiol. 2023 Dec 16;72(4):477-490. doi: 10.33073/pjm-2023-045. eCollection 2023 Dec 1.ABSTRACTAlgeria is one of the wealthiest countries in terms of hydrothermal sources, with more than two hundred hot springs. However, diverse and little-described microbial communities colonize these habitats, making them an intriguing research subject. This work reports the isolation of bacteria from two hot springs water samples in northeastern Algeria, evaluating their enzymatic activities and effect on plant pathogens. Out of the obtained 72 bacterial isolates and based on the 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis, the strain HGR5 ...
