A survey into the utilization of probiotics and medicinal plants among individuals afflicted with gastrointestinal disorders in healthcare institutions in Sa ïda, Algeria
Conclusion: The understanding of probiotics is still in its infancy, whereas phytotherapy is more widely accepted by patients. Nonetheless, patients are open to the exploration of natural alternatives to conventional medicines.PMID:38369815 | DOI:10.1080/19932820.2024.2317492 (Source: Libyan Journal of Medicine)

Enhancing the efficiency and functionality of xylanase from Bacillus sp. RTS11: Optimization, purification, characterization, and prospects in kraft pulp bleaching
Cell Mol Biol (Noisy-le-grand). 2024 Jan 31;70(1):67-79. doi: 10.14715/cmb/2024.70.1.10.ABSTRACTBacillus sp. RTS11, a xylanolytic strain, was isolated from the Algerian desert rocks. Genetic analysis revealed a remarkable 98.69% similarity to Bacillus pumilus. We harnessed optimization techniques, including Plackett-Burman screening and Box-Behnken optimization design, to amplify xylanase production and activity. The outcome of these efforts was an optimized medium that yielded an impressive xylanase production titer of 448.89 U, a threefold increase compared to the non-optimized medium (146 U). The Purification of xylanas...

Is targeting healthcares carbon footprint really the best we can do to help address the climate crisis?
I write this commentary as wildfires rage around the world, including in Greece, Italy, Siberia, Algeria and the USA. In my own country, Canada, fires have already consumed over 130 000 km21—the size of Greece—and the wildfire season has not yet ended. Recent months have also seen hundreds of millions of people suffering scorching heatwaves across Europe, China and North America. Residents of Phoenix, Arizona, endured temperatures over 43°C for 31 consecutive days this summer. In Italy, harsh heat in the south occurred at the same time as storms delivered hail the size of tennis balls in the country’s...

Molecules, Vol. 29, Pages 849: Chemical Composition and Antioxidant and Anti-Inflammatory Activities of Myrtus communis L. Leaf Extract: Forecasting Absorption, Distribution, Metabolism, and Toxicity Profiling and Anti-Inflammatory Targets Using Molecular Docking Tools
In this study, we aimed to systematically unravel the chemical profile and antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities of myrtle methanolic extract (MMEx) using in vitro, in vivo, and in silico approaches. High levels of TPC (415.85 ± 15.52 mg GAE/g) and TFC (285.80 ± 1.64 mg QE/g) were observed. Mass spectrophotometry (GC-MS) analysis revealed the presence of 1,8-cineole (33.80%), α-pinene (10.06%), linalool (4.83%), p-dimethylaminobenzophenone (4.21%), thunbergol (4%), terpineol (3.60%), cis-geranyl acetate (3.25%), and totarol (3.30%) as major compounds. MMEx induced pronounc...
