Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever Virus Seropositivity among Dromedary Camels, Algeria, 2020-2021
Emerg Infect Dis. 2023 Dec;29(12):2546-2548. doi: 10.3201/eid2912.230587.ABSTRACTSerosurvey results for Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever virus antibodies in dromedary camels in Algeria indicate that the pathogen is circulating endemically in desertic areas, despite the hostile environment. Thus, dromedaries are suitable sentinels for detecting human risk for Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever in desertic areas.PMID:37987592 | DOI:10.3201/eid2912.230587 (Source: Emerging Infectious Diseases)

Assessment of toxic trace elements (Cd, Pb, As, and Co) in small, medium, and large individuals of Mytilus galloprovincialis and Perna perna mussel species along the Algerian coast
The objective of this study was to examine the levels of Cd, Pb, As, and Co in three different size classes of two mussel species, Mytilus galloprovincialis and Perna perna, collected from three sites along the Algerian coast, each exhibiting varying degrees of pollution. At each of the study sites, a total of thirty individuals from small, medium, and large size classes of mussels were collected during four different time periods. The mussels were then dissected, and the concentrations of Cd, Pb, As, and Co were measured in the entire flesh of the mussels using ICP-MS.Across the various study sites, the concentrations of c...

First report on the chemical composition and the free radical scavenging and antimicrobial activities of the essential oil of < em > Ononis aurasiaca < /em > , an endemic plant of Algeria
This study represents the first investigation of the chemical composition and the antioxidant and antimicrobial activities of Ononis aurasiaca Förther & Podlech, a plant species endemic to the Aures Mountains of Algeria. The essential oil of the plant aerial parts was analysed using GC-MS. The in vitro antioxidant activity was evaluated using three methods. A total of 44 compounds were identified. The major constituents were dodecanal, hexahydrofarnesylacetone, 2-tridecanone, phytol, 1-heneicosene, and n-heneicosane. The oil displayed significant activity in the β-carotene bleaching assay, moderate scavenging activit...

Chemical composition and antimicrobial activity of essential oils of two wild olive subspecies < em > Olea  europaea < /em > L.var. sylvestris and the endemic olive < em > Olea europaea < /em > subsp. < em > lapperinie < /em > from Algeria
Nat Prod Res. 2023 Nov 15:1-8. doi: 10.1080/14786419.2023.2280818. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTTwo wild olive subspecies are fixed in this research: Olea europaea L.var. sylvestris and Olea europaea subsp. laperrinei despite its ecological value, the chemical composition of subsp. laperrinei oil remains unknown. The samples were harvested from the different geographical area. Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) and Gas Chromatography-flame-ionization detection (GC-FID) analysis of Olea europaea L. var. sylvestris allowed the identification of 29 compounds oil with Nonanal (11.82%), theaspiranea A (9.81%), 3-hexe...

Shear wave elastography as a non-invasive tool for staging liver fibrosis in children: A study in Algerian pediatric patients
Conclusion2D-SWE shows promise as a non-invasive method for evaluating liver fibrosis in children, offering a potential alternative to liver biopsy. Larger studies are needed to substantiate the findings of this study and to confirm the accuracy and reliability of 2D-SWE for assessing liver fibrosis in children.Graphical abstract (Source: Indian Journal of Gastroenterology)

Analgesic effect of < em > Centaurium erythraea < /em > and molecular docking investigation of the major component swertiamarin
Nat Prod Res. 2023 Nov 10:1-7. doi: 10.1080/14786419.2023.2278160. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCentaurium erythraea Rafn is employed in Algerian traditional medicine for treating pain. The analgesic activity of the ethanolic extract (EE) from the flowering aerial parts of this plant was examined, and molecular docking of the main bioactive compound was performed. The EE, characterised by the iridoid swertiamarin, was administered to Wistar albino rats in pain models. Peripheral analgesic activity was evaluated using the acetic acid-induced writhing test, and a hot plate test was performed for central antinociceptive acti...
