Addiction Psychotherapy Resources
PGY2 here For various reasons, I was involuntary assigned to our addictions ward for 6 more months. The first 6 months that I rotated there I focused on research and other academic things. I did fine with the medical/pharmacological aspect of addiction medicine. But I didn't really do anything related to psychotherapy and left that instead to the ward's psychologists. This time around I want to emphasize psychotherapy. Any good books or resources? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Is the future of academia for physcian-scientists that bleak?
This reddit post brought me here: Reddit - Dive into anything reddit.com I am a rising G1 in a mid-tier MSTP. I had thought that with my dual degree, it would be relatively easier to climb the academic ladder as many PDs have told me repeatedly that “there are not enough physician-scientists, so you will be in high demand in academia.” I’m getting the feeling that it’s not the whole picture. I read comments saying that obtaining R01 is getting harder by the year. Would I be... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

MDACC Austin
Austin is not underserved. And the TXONC group is mostly freestanding, so they are cost effective. This will drive up costs and hurt the groups there. For what? Market domination? Banner, FWIW, did not win the Phoenix market. AZCCC still rules, and Ironwood and Palos Verde do very well. Unique Opportunity - Thoughts and Recommendations?
Hi everyone, I am a long-time member but wanted to make an anonymous post on this opportunity and get feedback/guidance. I am currently a new fellow, but have had more experience (four months) rotating through our interventional pain program as a resident than any other person in the history of our program except our fellowship director. I am at my home institution and our large community hospital is being acquired by my academic institution. I am in a unique opportunity that is going... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Academic Misconduct
Hi, I recently got an IA for cheating and am starting my sophomore year. I was wondering what possible things I can do over the next 2-3 years before applying to med school to help my application. Of course not cheating again and getting basically all A’s is very important, however this isn’t enough. Are there certain actions med school ADCOMS want to see when an action like this occurs? CAR-T as a career
Hi, I haven't posted on here in a while. I'm a first year Heme/Onc fellow at a mid tier academic program. I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on what CAR-T therapy might be like as a career. Can someone start working in this field as a career straight out of fellowship or would there need to be further specialization after graduating like must I do a nonaccredited CAR-T fellowship? Would I need to focus on BMT or hematologic malignancies in fellowship? What will the demand... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

I need advice about my gap year
I need some advice about how to spend my gap year. I am currently finishing up my medical school secondaries, so I plan to (hopefully) matriculate into medical school in 2024. My original plans have been to spend this year teaching English at an elementary school in Spain. I am set to move out and start that position in mid-September. I really love teaching (I would like to have some involvement in academia as a physician) and I also hope to greatly improve my Spanish speaking abilities...
