1 year attending job?
Hi I am a rads resident about to rank and match for fellowship. Spouse is an FM PGY 2. Rank list right now is all over the country, mostly in big metros/big academic centers. We will likely return to the area we are currently in after my fellowship year (its her hometown). We aren't interested in doing distance for a year. She isn't really interested in a fellowship year either. Would it be feasible for wife to have a 1 year attending job wherever I end up for fellowship? Or would... Boston University vs. Rush
I've been very fortunate to get to pick between these options but am feeling pretty torn. I was initially very set on BU because of the higher ranking/prestige (cost of attendance would be nearly identical), but after visiting Rush I am reconsidering. My family is in CA, so both are far regardless. I hope to eventually match back into CA, and as of now I'm thinking of cardiology. For cardiology, my impression is that matching into a good name academic IM program in CA would set me up best... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

What to do with my hatred of academic medicine?
Essentially, I have grown to despise academic medicine. I see so many problems linked to academic medicine that plague medicine now. Like obsession on specialization (since academic medicine takes cues from academia general idea of phds specializing on really small things, and wasting time doing research). Lot of academic physicians worked on ACA that completely ****ed us over. Academic docs I'm around constantly **** talk private practice. Academic docs I've talked to seem to extremely... Pitt vs UCSD
Hi all! I am thrilled to have been admitted to two of my absolute dream schools, but it is making my decision a lot harder. I am from California but have lived on the East Coast for the past few years and have lots of friends/support in both places (though my parents are still in CA) and am leaning towards going to the East Coast for residency. I'm generally interested in academic surgery/surgical subspecialties, though not completely committed, and I am really interested in finding research... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Attending subspecialty conferences during intern year?
I matched into psychiatry for the incoming 2024 cohort starting in July. I have long wanted to pursue forensic psychiatry even during undergrad, and I can see that while fellowships in general are not competitive, the more "prestigious" programs are getting more selective over time. My program is not a big academic center and not terribly well known. It isn't exactly rural or community, but its also not in a major urban area and there won't be many resources for me to get a lot of forensic... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Binghamton or Buffalo School of Pharmacy
Hi everyone, I'm in the process of choosing between attending Binghamton University and the University at Buffalo. I've been offered a small scholarship of $3,000 per year to attend Binghamton, but no financial aid for Buffalo. I'm trying to weigh the pros and cons of each option, considering factors like academic programs, campus life, and overall costs. Could anyone share their experiences or insights about these schools, especially if you've faced a similar choice? Any advice on how to... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

VA Radiation Oncology jobs?
Hi Folks, What do you think about the VA radiation oncology Physician jobs? I have been to a couple of VAs, and it seems that, in general, nobody wants to work and are happy to keep referring patients to academic affiliates. Is this prevalent across all VA healthcare systems? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Dear SDN, I am fortunate to have the opportunity to conduct research abroad in an underserved community, and I have been presented with a variety of interesting research projects to choose from. How to improve? 34 y/o, 2nd time, low GPA, mental health
I am 34 and it’s been over 10 years since completing my prerequisites. I “went out with a bang” and tanked my GPA my last year of undergraduate courses due to mental health concerns. I will address this in my explanation statement, but I need an academic comeback. I know my GPA is really low. I am also a disadvantaged student (raised in abusive/addiction family), and therefore have been looking into Colorado’s Vet Prep program. However I know they only pick 10. Cumulative GPA: 3.0... Huge upward GPA trend
I have an enormous cGPA trend. After my first 3 years, I transferred and did 5 more years of school (BS Biology & Math, BS Biomedical Engineering, MS Biomedical Engineering). cGPA by year 1.72, 1.77, 1.16... ... ... 2.94, 3.57, 3.94, 3.98, 3.97 My cGPA over my entire academic career is a 3.06 (sGPA is comparable). However, looking at just my last 4 years, I have a cGPA of 3.73 over 226 credits. Given that in my last 4 years I've taken almost twice as many credits as is... UChicago vs. NYU vs. UPenn
Hi everyone, having some trouble deciding between these three incredible institutions and would love to hear what others have to say. My priorities in medicine include working with medical Spanish/Spanish-speaking populations and having the potential to match in any specialty of my choice (as I am still undecided). UChicago Pros Full tuition scholarship Love Chicago as a city + Hyde Park is a nice little academic bubble to build a sense of community Incredibly diverse... UCSF vs. Brown vs. Columbia (WL)
Hi everyone! I’m very grateful to have these options, but I'm struggling a bit with how to weigh different variables when making a final choice. I really appreciate any advice/insights/thoughts about other factors to consider. Some general background: I’m interested in academic medicine. I don’t know what specialty, but as of now thinking about psychiatry, peds, or internal medicine, probably with fellowship. I’m originally from New England and would love to end up back there long-term. I... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)
