Fair compensation
So i’ve seen the $250-300k offers for big academic places in big cities, i’ve also seen $500-600k pp offers in middle of nowhere. Both have pros and cons. But my question is, what do you guys think the fair compensation should be for new grads in terms of base salary, expected RVUs etc.? Or in other terms, what would indicate a strong, healthy job market in your opinion? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

WAMC/School List Help: 3.69 cGPA (upward trend)/ 520 MCAT + IA
What schools should I apply to/I have a chance at? How much would the IA I have affect my chances, especially at T20s? Almost all activities below are still ongoing. I have a very minor IA for discussing a take-home assignment with my twin brother which resulted in us having some similar answers. I committed this at the beginning of second year. This has been removed from my academic history but I plan on disclosing it. Moreover, starting this summer I will be working in the academic... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Please be honest... Am I doomed? (Academic Institutional Action)
Hi guys, I'm just looking for some fully honest feedback on how ****ed I am. I am a senior that is going to graduate at the end of this semester and apply for the med school cycle in May and I am taking a gap year after graduating to pursue a year worth of research. Now, 2 years ago in the first semester of my sophomore year, I plagiarized 1 question on a physics prelab assignment using a prelab from a previous semester and was caught for it. This was the only assignment in the class that I... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Nuanced OMFS residency question
Hello everyone, I have some specific questions about applying to OMFS residency after dental school, any opinions would be appreciated! A little bit about my academic history as it is relevant to my questions: My undergrad GPA when applying to dental school was 3.3ish overall, science 3.0. I got in my first application cycle with one interview and one acceptance. I am now a D2 ranked top 15%, and am currently studying for the CBSE in July. After, I plan to start externing, and looking to... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Career in Critical care Medicine in Tier 1 academic places!
Hi everyone! I matched into a Tier 3-4 critical care fellowship program and I am wondering what are the pros and cons of working in Tier 1 academic centers anywhere in the USA. I am have been told that s/p fellowship, working in a place like Columbia/NYU/Yale/UPenn will likely offered significantly lower salary(I am told lower and I 'm not sure how lower it is either). My question is what are the other tangible downsides of working in a places like that? or more clearly is there any upsides... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

WAMC/school list 4.0/527 ORM nontrad
PLEASE DO NOT QUOTE THIS MESSAGE Hi everyone, thank you so much in advance for your help/feedback! I'm finishing up one gap year and preparing to apply in this upcoming 2024 cycle. I know my stats make me competitive but I am worried about a lack of clinical experience (explained below). I'm interested in a career in academic medicine, overall vibe of application will be about being able to use research to care for specific people through health care access and innovation and elevate their... Why aren't we educating residents about.....
The difference between SDG, CMG, hospital employment? At my "power house" 4 year academic residency, we received not one hour regarding this. Is it that they just have no idea? Don't care? Want to push all the residents into academics? Are ignorant? Combo of all the above? I worked a bit of moonlighting at a community 3 year program w ties to one of the big anti-CMG voices in EM, and they seemed to get it more, but jeez we are really failing the residents. Should I do this public health research to help my residency app?
MD/MPH student here with an opportunity to get involved in some public health research I'm really interested in, but I'm worried that it would be taking away from something else that would strengthen my residency app. Also, I'm applying for the 2025 match, so I don't know if I'll have something ready to put on ERAS in time. My home program is my #1, and they know I am strongly interested. Other nearby programs with a mix of academic and community follow (will do 1 away). I know a language... How do people with no gap yr get 3~4k+ hours of research??
I'm going to be starting working a inorg lab from this summer as part of the starting members (cuz my prof is new this yr), but even if I assume 400 hours/summer for 2 summers and 800 hours for 2 academic years, that's still only 1600 hours. I've seen that applicants who are research focused will have 3000~4000 hours and multiple publications, so I was wondering how that's possible. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

TMDSAS Match with IA
Wanted to give those who may be applying with an academic dishonesty IA some hope. I matched to a Texas medical school this morning! The IA does not have to be the nail in the coffin for your application; I grew from my mistake and thoroughly conveyed that in my application and interview. Stories of other applicants who overcame their IA were few and far between on SDN and Reddit, so I wanted to pay it forward because those posts gave me the courage to go ahead and give it my best shot. PM... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Failed my last preclinical exam by 1 question and panicking.
As the title says, I'm at the end of my school's pre clinical curriculum, and have been doing great... until now. While juggling step prep and the final block, I got sick on the day of the final and failed the exam by a single question. Now I'm in remediation, and idk what that even means. Trying not to panic or think of darker thoughts, but I'm not doing great atm. What does a remediation academic delay mean? How f*ed am I? (Source: Student Doctor Network)
