Does going to a "workhorse" residency program notably benefit your speed in private practice (Columbia vs NYU)
As the title suggests, I am almost 100% sure I want to do private practice. I was told that the reading speed difference between private practice and academics is only increasing and in order to maximize income and have the best shot at making partner it helps to be a fast reader. I am currently deciding whether to rank NYU vs Columbia #1 in order to meet this goal. From what I gathered NYU has more academic and research prestige in the field of radiology but Columbia residents absolutely... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

FAER MSARF summer program - what are my chances?
Hi everyone! Thank you for taking the time to read! I am an OMS-1 interested in anesthesiology. I am thinking about applying to the FAER MSARF summer research program. I was wondering if the program typically takes DO students. Would a low MCAT score affect my chances? I am in good academic standing at my medical school. I would appreciate any advice from previous applicants on how I can stand out in my application! Thanks! (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Cincinnati vs. Colorado
Hi! I'm coming to the end of my cycle and have narrowed my choices between these two schools. For reference, I'm not geographically close to these schools so I don't have a clear idea of their reputation, other than they are well-regarded schools in their respective regions. For my career interests, I'm looking to go into academic medicine within pediatrics & global health. Specifically, I'm hoping to match at an academic program within a tertiary/quaternary center (i.e., CHOP... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

IA - What to do
Hi, I'll be graduating in 2024 and aiming to apply in the 2024-25 cycle. I received an Academic dishonesty IA in my freshman year and would appreciate feedback on how this will affect my application and further steps I should take. In spring semester of my freshman year, my computer keyboard broke and I ended up working with a classmate for a coding homework assignment, which he emailed to me and I submitted. Our entries were flagged as being similar and I received an academic dishonesty... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

APPIC Interview - How to know if the interview went well or not?
Hi there! I feel so lost. To be honest, this past academic year has been a rollercoaster and a half, and honestly, the interviews feel like a blur too because I feel like I cannot assess them properly. In the past, I have been able to be confident in my interviews (for jobs or graduate schools) and do relatively well on them, but this interview season feels like another beast all together. Do you all have any advice on how to tell if the interview went well or not? And also, if you matched... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Which path should I choose?
Hi all, I (30M single, no kids) am currently a Respiratory Therapist seeking to further my medical education. I have a rough academic past where I have 21 units of F grades that I failed to know to withdraw 12 years ago before RT school. I finished my BSRT degree and have a 3.5 GPA. My premed prerequisites are a 3.8 GPA. However, when my 21 units of F are factored in, my cGPA and sGPA are merely 3.1 and 3.2, respectively. My options are pretty limited - I am aware. I have not taken the... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Academic Infraction - What is the likelihood of receiving interviews?
Hello, Let me preface with nothing will stop me from applying to schools. This is the report from the Dean of Students office on my infraction: The student in violation contacted Dr. ____ regarding a grade received on an assignment in our course. When we followed-up for additional information, the student produced screenshots of a revision history and a submission receipt. Upon closer inspection of the submission receipt, it was clear that the submission receipt was not genuine and had... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Early Career Support
I'm thrilled to have started my first grown up job at an academic medical center. However, I am noticing a lot of outdated practices and recently was confronted for not doing things the same way as the senior psychologists (e.g., sending a patient questionnaire via Epic instead of reading it verbatim to the patient in a virtual session; mentioning the potential for differential diagnoses). A meeting was proposed for us to discuss having a uniform protocol, and also to have a uniform way of... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Anyone have a comprehensive list of Holistic Schools?
Hey everyone, I hope you're doing well! I'm currently in the process of researching vet schools and was wondering if anyone has a comprehensive list of schools that are known for their holistic application approach. I'm particularly interested in programs that consider various aspects beyond just academic achievements. If you have any insights, personal experiences, or know of schools that prioritize holistic applications, please share them here. Your input will be incredibly valuable as I... Academic Dishonesty Question
Hello, I am seeking some advice! I graduated with a degree in Biology December 2023 with a low GPA and I am currently applying to SMPs and Masters/ Post-Bacc programs. In the first semester of my senior year (Fall 2022) my mental health severely declined due to an SA instance and in turn that affected my attendance in class due to a steep decline in my mental health. I then changed the date on a Dr.'s note so that my attendance grade would not be affected and got caught. At the time I was... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)
