SUNY Downstate vs USC Greenville
SUNY Downstate Pros I’m a NYC resident so instate tuition and close to friends/family (support system) Potentially more clinical exposure to a diverse patient population Match list is mostly in NY state and I would like to stay in this area Cons Bigger school with less academic support Location in Brooklyn isn’t great Older facilities USC Greenville Pros Quality of life probably would be better in a suburban setting Lower cost of... UCI vs. University of Maryland SoM
Would love input from fellow applicants, adcom, students, etc. I want to match into a competitive specialty for residency. Thank you! UCI Pros in state close to community in the bay area would save about 30k in total tuition money Already know some providers I could conduct research with there. Cons didn't really feel an enthusiastic, academic vibe from the school higher cost of living match list is not public lower rank than maryland ... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Ohio State vs UVA
Hi everyone! I would love to hear some feedback about your opinions of these schools and which you think might be a better fit for my interests. I've done research in nutrition/gut microbiology for 4 years and definitely want to continue doing lots of research in med school (preferably still in this area). As of right now, I want to go into academic medicine and possibly specialize in internal medicine (gastro maybe?) plus I want to do some global health electives. Ohio State... Post Bacc MCAT prep schedule
Hey guys, I'm new to the whole premed thing as I'm a nontraditional student who is switching carer paths. I'll be quitting my full time job in a few weeks and taking the premed requirements full time over the next few semesters at a local university (no formal post bacc program). I have an academic plan set up for how to schedule the classes I'll be taking, which is the following: Summer 2024Gen. Chem. 1 with lab Gen. Chem. 2 with lab Fall 2024Org. Chem. 1 with lab Physics 1... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Billing tips for newly minted Rheumatology Attending
Im a very short time fellowship will be over and we will be set free to join the workforce as independent providers. Like in most residences and fellowships, billing is not exactly a topic that gets covered a lot. My fellowship is largely academic so attendings often don't think or worry about RVUs. Currently, I bill mostly 99204/99214, occasionally 99205/99215, G2211, and procedure codes for aspiration/injection. Once I get MSK US certified, I plan on incorporating that into my practice... Being 2nd Quartile (Bottom Half)
I think Im smack down in the middle, maybe a little bit to the lower half. I know preclinical grades don’t matter, but assuming I end up in the second quartile (bottom half), is there any specialty that would view this as a negative? I’m a DO, and I’m interested in academic IM, neuro, anesthesia, and maybe gen surg. Thanks. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Questions About NCC
I have been learning more about what fellowship paths there are post neuro residency, and I came across NCC. Just an M1, but I had a few questions about it. Is NCC a competitive fellowship, similar to cards/GI/PCCM/heme onc? i.e. will I need to be coming from an academic program? Or is this something I’ll be able to match given I’m a decent resident who works hard? How is the job market for NCC? Is this a niche field with only a few amount of jobs available, or is it a growing field? From... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

RFU vs Morehouse
For context, my long-term goal is an academic practice in internal medicine (cardiology eventually) or radiology. I know it's a bit of time away, but I would prefer to complete my residency in Chicago (as I would ideally like to settle down in my hometown). Morehouse: Pros - community & health equity focus - close with Emory - tight knit community, smaller class sizes - Grady clinical rotations - have a few very close friends in Atlanta Cons - HP/P/F and then graded... Those with red flags, how did the match go?
Congrats to all those who matched! Those of you who had red flags on your app (repeated year due to academic failure, failed board exams, etc.), how did the match go? Considering that this was the first match with P/F Step 1, I'm interested in knowing how the match worked out for those who had a red flag on their app (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Difficulty recruiting
Our group is a private group in Tampa, FL. We are recruting but have had struggle attracting candidates. It used to be that we would post jobs on the ASTRO board and get tons of applicants, now we struggle to get any. We are a private group that is lifestyle friendly (4 days per week) and partnership track. It appears most applicants these days prefer employed jobs at academic health systems. Where do physicians go these days to apply for jobs, if they're not using the ASTRO board... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Matching Academic Cardiology from mid tier Residency
Hello all, I am a fourth year medical student (USMD) who is interested in pursuing a cardiology fellowship. I fell down my rank list and will be attending a mid tier (~T50) academic internal medicine residency program with a strong in-house fellowship program. My goal for my career is to remain in academics and conduct research while practicing (or at the very least I want to keep that option open). As such I am interested in completing a cardiology fellowship at an academic institution... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Academic Cardiology Fellowship Match Competitiveness
Hello all, I am a fourth year medical student (USMD) who is interested in pursuing a cardiology fellowship. I fell down my rank list and will be attending a mid tier (~T50) academic internal medicine residency program with a reasonably strong in-house fellowship program. Combined IM-Derm vs Complex med derm fellowships
Could someone provide insight into who should pursue combined med-derm residencies, compared to pursuing derm and doing a complex med derm fellowship if your ultimate goal is academic complex derm? I'm really interested in rheum-derm and onco-dermatology and want to practice at the intersection of these fields in the future, and was planning to apply to combined med-derm residencies, but have been told by some that these are a waste of time and can be accomplished through derm alone (+/- a... Drug talks
As a fellow, I attended many pharma sponsored drug dinners. A lot of the speakers were academic faculty in the disease-specific field of the drug. However, there were several community oncologists, especially private practice oncologists, who gave these talks. I'm assuming they get paid at least a couple thousand per talk, as several of them were driven from several states away to our area to give the talks. How do I get involved in this as a private practice doc just starting out? Would... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Cornell vs. Yale vs. Northwestern
Hi Everyone! I'm extremely grateful to have the opportunity to choose between these schools and would appreciate any and all advice. A little bit about me: I come from a low-income, first-gen, immigrant parent background (Latin America), so finances and being at a diverse school/city are extremely important to me. Interested in pursing neurosurgery (significant personal/scientific experiences) and academic medicine. Neurology if I decide surgery isn't for me lol. I'm also especially...
