Minor IA - am I totally screwed?
Hi all, I just received word from my prehealth committee that I have a minor non academic IA on my record. The incident: When I was a freshman, the dorms at my school had a no-overnight guest policy due to COVID. I had checked in another student to my dorm but forgotten to check them out when they left. I received an email from Student Conduct reading: The [Student Conduct Office] were recently notified that you were documented for an alleged violation of one or more of the following... Stanford vs Vanderbilt (75% Scholarship)
Stanford (PSTP) Pros Strong fit with scientist/creative academic culture, could probably first author a cool project Prestige in and out of academia (dream school vibes) I thrive in unstructured environments and like the independence of their curriculum World leaders in my research field of interest, interdisciplinary projects encouraged Never lived on the west coast, and very much love nearby outdoors stuff, have friends in SF Slightly older students with... Harvard vs. NYU
Hi!! Thought I knew what I wanted but now feeling really really conflicted and not sure what the right choice in this situation is. For context I'm pretty set on OB/GYN, have lived in TX my whole life, and want to work in academic medicine with focus on public health and policy in the future. Harvard: Pros: P/F for pre-clinical and clerkships, graded for post-clerkships (sub-Is, electives, etc) Controversy about this though?? With some schools going back and some... 1 year attending job?
Hi I am a rads resident about to rank and match for fellowship. Spouse is an FM PGY 2. Rank list right now is all over the country, mostly in big metros/big academic centers. We will likely return to the area we are currently in after my fellowship year (its her hometown). We aren't interested in doing distance for a year. She isn't really interested in a fellowship year either. Would it be feasible for wife to have a 1 year attending job wherever I end up for fellowship? Or would... Boston University vs. Rush
I've been very fortunate to get to pick between these options but am feeling pretty torn. I was initially very set on BU because of the higher ranking/prestige (cost of attendance would be nearly identical), but after visiting Rush I am reconsidering. My family is in CA, so both are far regardless. I hope to eventually match back into CA, and as of now I'm thinking of cardiology. For cardiology, my impression is that matching into a good name academic IM program in CA would set me up best... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

What to do with my hatred of academic medicine?
Essentially, I have grown to despise academic medicine. I see so many problems linked to academic medicine that plague medicine now. Like obsession on specialization (since academic medicine takes cues from academia general idea of phds specializing on really small things, and wasting time doing research). Lot of academic physicians worked on ACA that completely ****ed us over. Academic docs I'm around constantly **** talk private practice. Academic docs I've talked to seem to extremely... Pitt vs UCSD
Hi all! I am thrilled to have been admitted to two of my absolute dream schools, but it is making my decision a lot harder. I am from California but have lived on the East Coast for the past few years and have lots of friends/support in both places (though my parents are still in CA) and am leaning towards going to the East Coast for residency. I'm generally interested in academic surgery/surgical subspecialties, though not completely committed, and I am really interested in finding research... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Attending subspecialty conferences during intern year?
I matched into psychiatry for the incoming 2024 cohort starting in July. I have long wanted to pursue forensic psychiatry even during undergrad, and I can see that while fellowships in general are not competitive, the more "prestigious" programs are getting more selective over time. My program is not a big academic center and not terribly well known. It isn't exactly rural or community, but its also not in a major urban area and there won't be many resources for me to get a lot of forensic... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Binghamton or Buffalo School of Pharmacy
Hi everyone, I'm in the process of choosing between attending Binghamton University and the University at Buffalo. I've been offered a small scholarship of $3,000 per year to attend Binghamton, but no financial aid for Buffalo. I'm trying to weigh the pros and cons of each option, considering factors like academic programs, campus life, and overall costs. Could anyone share their experiences or insights about these schools, especially if you've faced a similar choice? Any advice on how to... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

VA Radiation Oncology jobs?
Hi Folks, What do you think about the VA radiation oncology Physician jobs? I have been to a couple of VAs, and it seems that, in general, nobody wants to work and are happy to keep referring patients to academic affiliates. Is this prevalent across all VA healthcare systems? (Source: Student Doctor Network)
