Isotretinoin is not associated with inflammatory bowel disease even when compared with topical antibiotics and topical retinoids
To the Editor: We read with great interest the commentary of Lin et  al1 about our paper entitled: “Isotretinoin and the risk of inflammatory bowel disease and irritable bowel syndrome: a large-scale global study.”2 Throughout the last decades, the dermatologic community has struggled with considerable controversy regarding the risk of inflammatory bowel diseas e (IBD) among patients treated with isotretinoin. Previous observational studies yielded inconsistent observations.3 (Source: Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology)

A new perspective on isotretinoin in pregnancy: Pregnancy outcomes, evaluation of complex phenotypes, and importance of teratological counselling
CONCLUSIONS: Our study demonstrated that study design, long-term follow-up, teratological counseling, and implementation of advanced molecular analysis in complex phenotypes with novel phenotypical features are beneficial for understanding the association of congenital anomalies with isotretinoin exposure. While evaluating congenital anomalies, we detected statistically significant differences between isotretinoin exposure before and during the pregnancy vs control, but we did not detect any statistically significant differences between isotretinoin exposure before the pregnancy and controls. Another finding of the study i...

A new perspective on isotretinoin in pregnancy: Pregnancy outcomes, evaluation of complex phenotypes, and importance of teratological counselling
Teratogens are responsible for 5% of all known causes of congenital anomalies. Isotretinoin, a retinoic acid –derived agent, leads to congenital anomalies in 21-52% of cases when exposure occurs during pregnancy according to studies conducted before 2006. However, rates of congenital anomalies were much lower in later studies. The purpose of this study was to investigate the rates of congenital anomalies in isotretinoin exposure during pregnancy, isotretinoin exposure before pregnancy, and a control group unexposed to any teratogenic agents. Molecules, Vol. 28, Pages 7110: Solubility and Thermodynamic Analysis of Isotretinoin in Different (DMSO + Water) Mixtures
A. Alsarra The solubility and solution thermodynamics of isotretinoin (ITN) (3) in numerous {dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) (1) + water (H2O) (2)} combinations were studied at 298.2–318.2 K under fixed atmospheric pressure of 101.1 kPa. A shake flask methodology was used to determine ITN solubility, and correlations were made using the “van’t Hoff, Apelblat, Buchowski-Ksiazczak λh, Yalkowsky-Roseman, Jouyban-Acree, and Jouyban-Acree-van’t Hoff models”. In mixtures of {(DMSO (1) + H2O (2)}, the solubility of ITN in mole fractions was enhanc...

Effect of isotretinoin treatment on inflammatory and hematological parameters in patients with acne vulgaris
CONCLUSION: Our study suggests that the MPV and NLR ratio as biomarkers can be used as indicators of atherosclerosis-related inflammation due to ISO treatment, but the MHR, NHR, LHR, PHR, MLR, LMR ratios cannot be used. Moreover, we believe that the ratios of TG/HDL, LDL/HDL, and total cholesterol/HDL offer a new contribution as indicators of cardiovascular risk and systemic inflammation related to ISO treatment.PMID:37837334 | DOI:10.1080/15569527.2023.2268166 (Source: Atherosclerosis)
