Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe current situation, which includes changes in eating habits, an increasing population, and the unrestricted use of natural resources, has resulted in a lack of resources that could be used to provide nourishing food to everyone. Natural plant resources are quickly being depleted, so it is necessary to consider new alternatives. In addition to the staple grains of rice and wheat, many other crops are being consumed that need to be utilized to their full potential and have the potential to replace the staple crops. ...

Serum neurofilament light chain as an early diagnostic biomarker for critical illness polyneuropathy
CONCLUSIONS: Levels of serum neurofilament light chain are higher in patients who develop CIP soon after CCU admission and might be helpful in identifying those individuals early.PMID:37851416 | DOI:10.23736/S0375-9393.23.17490-6 (Source: Minerva Anestesiologica)

A cross-sectional study of nutritional status in healthy, young, physically-active German omnivores, vegetarians and vegans reveals adequate vitamin B < sub > 12 < /sub > status in supplemented vegans
CONCLUSIONS: Even amongst homogeneously healthy Germans, each diet manifested with measurable differences in dietary intakes and biomarkers of health. Plant-based diets, in particular the vegan diet, exhibited the most favorable patterns of lipid metabolism and glycemic control, but the lowest food intake of B12. Supplementation of healthy vegans with B12 (median 250 µg B12/day, over 2 years) secured an adequate B12 status that was comparable to that of healthy omnivores.Clinical Trial Registry: German Clinical Trial register number: DRKS00027425.PMID:37851870 | DOI:10.1080/07853890.2023.2269969 (Source: Annals of Medicine)

Clinical efficacy of fire needling combined with cupping therapy on herpes zoster of acute stage and the effect on Th17/Treg cellular immune balance
CONCLUSION: The early application of fire needling combined with cupping therapy can effectively treat herpes zoster of acute stage, relieve pain, and reduce the incidence of postherpetic neuralgia, which may be related to reducing the levels of Th17 and Treg cells, and Th17/Treg ratio in the peripheral blood, as well as the serum levels of IL-10 and IL-17 so that the cellular immune balance is modulated.PMID:37802518 | DOI:10.13703/j.0255-2930.20221005-k0004 (Source: Herpes)

A functional evaluation of anti-fatigue and exercise performance improvement following vitamin B complex supplementation in healthy humans, a randomized double-blind trial
In conclusion, 28 consecutive days of vitamin B complex (Ex PLUS®) supplementation significantly improved exercise endurance performance and reduced exercise fatigue biochemical metabolites in not athletes. In addition, it does not cause adverse effects in humans when taken at appropriate doses.PMID:37786445 | PMC:PMC10542023 | DOI:10.7150/ijms.86738 (Source: International Journal of Medical Sciences)
