Thiopseudomonas acetoxidans sp. nov., an aerobic acetic and butyric acids oxidizer isolated from anaerobic fermentation liquid of food waste
Antonie Van Leeuwenhoek. 2024 Feb 13;117(1):35. doi: 10.1007/s10482-024-01932-6.ABSTRACTA Gram-stain-negative, oxidase-negative, rod-shaped, motile, facultatively anaerobic bacterial strain, designated as CY1220T, was isolated from an anaerobic fermentation liquid of food waste treatment plant. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences indicated that the strain CY1220T belongs to the genus Thiopseudomonas, with the highest sequence similarity to Thiopseudomonas alkaliphila B4199T (95.91%), followed by Thiopseudomonas denitrificans X2T (95.56%). The genomic DNA G + C content of strain CY1220T was 48.6 mol%. The...

Serum binding folate receptor autoantibodies lower in autistic boys and positively-correlated with folate
In this study, we aimed to quantify serum binding-FRAA and explore its relation with serum folate, vitamin B12 (VB12) and ferritin. We quantitated serum binding-FRAA in 132 ASD children and 132 typically-developing (TD) children, as well as serum levels of folate, VB12 and ferritin. The results showed that serum binding-FRAA in the ASD group was significantly lower than that in the TD group (p < 0.0001). Further analysis showed that the difference between these two groups was attributed to boys in each group, not girls. There was no statistically significant difference in folate levels between the ASD and TD groups (p &...

The Management of Nausea and Vomiting in Pregnancy and Hyperemesis Gravidarum (Green-top Guideline No. 69)
BJOG. 2024 Feb 4. doi: 10.1111/1471-0528.17739. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAn objective and validated index of nausea and vomiting such as the Pregnancy-Unique Quantification of Emesis (PUQE) and HyperEmesis Level Prediction (HELP) tools can be used to classify the severity of NVP and HG. [Grade C] Ketonuria is not an indicator of dehydration and should not be used to assess severity. [Grade A] There are safety and efficacy data for first line antiemetics such as anti (H1) histamines, phenothiazines and doxylamine/pyridoxine (Xonvea®) and they should be prescribed initially when required for NVP and HG (Appendix III). ...

The effect of macronutrient and micronutrient supplements on COVID-19: an umbrella review
CONCLUSION: Individuals without malnutrition had a reduced risk of SARS-CoV-2 infection and severe disease. The administration of Vitamin D is effective in reducing the morbidity and mortality of COVID-19 patients. Patients with vitamin D deficiency were more prone to experience severe infection, and they were at higher risk of morbidities and mortality. Other micronutrients such as Vitamin A, Vitamin B, and Zinc also showed some benefits in patients with COVID-19. Vitamin C showed no efficacy in COVID-19 management even in intravenous form or in high doses.PMID:38287379 | PMC:PMC10826055 | DOI:10.1186/s41043-024-00504-8 (...

A common problem in infants: vitamin B < sub > 12 < /sub > deficiency
CONCLUSIONS: In our country, routine screening of VB < sub > 12 < /sub > levels in infants is not performed; however, its early diagnosis and treatment can prevent many adverse effects mainly on the central nervous system. The fact that 98% of patients were 0-2 years old indicates that its deficiency may be quite high in the young age, and routine screening of this age group for VB < sub > 12 < /sub > deficiency and further studies for prophylaxis may be needed.PMID:38204307 | DOI:10.24953/turkjped.2022.399 (Source: The Turkish Journal of Pediatrics)
