Different leadless pacemakers working in harmony (Aveir in the atrium/Micra AV2 in the ventricle) in a patient with dextrocardia and double outlet right ventricle after high ‐risk infected device extraction
ConclusionOur case demonstrates the feasibility of using dual leadless pacing modalities to simultaneously pace someone at complex, prohibitive risk for temporary permanent or permanent pacemaker devices. (Source: Journal of Cardiovascular Electrophysiology)

Percutaneous Closure of Hemodynamically Significant Postoperative Residual Ventricular Septal Defects
AbstractThe experience with percutaneous closure of postoperative residual ventricular septal defects (VSDs) is expanding with improved device technology and techniques. To report our experience with percutaneous closure of residual VSDs after cardiac surgeries. Retrospective clinical data review of patients who had percutaneous closure of postoperative residual VSDs at our institution between 2010 and 2022. Patients ’ demographics, procedural, and follow-up data were looked at. Twelve patients (50% males) with a median age of 9.2 years (range 0.9–22) were identified. Baseline surgeries were 8 tetralogy of Fallot corr...

Intra-aortic balloon pump still has a role in late-onset myocardial infarction complicated by ventricular septal rupture with intractable heart failure: a case report
ConclusionWe report a case where IABP still provided benefits for a patient with intractable heart failure caused by undetermined onset MI complicated by VSR. The use of IABP in such a case is in accordance with the recommendation of the current guidelines. Several studies showed that IABP use during preoperative optimization in the case of post-MI VSR was associated with survival benefits. (Source: Journal of Medical Case Reports)

Mechanical support for bridge to transplant in an infant with post-cardiotomy end-stage heart failure and complete heart block: report of a case
AbstractThe patient was diagnosed with perimembranous ventricular septal defect (VSD). She underwent VSD closure and muscle bundle resection across right ventricular outflow tract at the age of 3 months. Since then, she had suffered from severe heart failure and complete heart block. Permanent pacemaker generator was implanted in the left hypochondrium. She was depended on continuous catecholamine administration, so transferred to our hospital for further management. On arrival, her body weight was 5686  g (− 2.7 SD). She underwent Excor pediatric left ventricular assist device implantation at the age of 9 months. Bec...

Transatrial approach to the “Swiss-cheese” ventricular septal defects: re-endocardialization technique
Surgical management of “Swiss-cheese” multiple ventricular septal defects (mVSD) poses significant challenges. Many surgical approaches have been proposed, including staged approach with initial pulmonary artery banding,1 intraoperative or transcatheter device closure,2 definitive surgical repair, or hybrid approach. Conventional surgical technique involves patch closure utilizing a relatively large patch to cover the affected ventricular septum.3 Although intuitive, patch repair carries risk of postoperative septal dyskinesis, and high rate of conduction block,4 particularly in the more severe entity of “Swis s-chee...

Utility of Konar-Multifunctional Occluder in Complex Situations: Unconventional Uses in Rare Situations
This study is a retrospective review from a tertiary level dedicated cardiac referral centre in south India. Three cases we are reporting here in which Konar-multifunctional occluders were used in locations other than commoner and regular defects like patent ductus arteriosus, ventricular septal defect etc, over the span of one year between April 2022 and March 2023. Pre-procedure, all patients underwent detailed clinical evaluation followed by transthoracic echocardiography, 12-lead electrocardiogram, and Chest X-ray at the outpatient department. All patients were either symptomatic or had a hemodynamically significant le...

Pattern of congenital heart defects among children in Jazan Region, Saudi Arabia: A five-year hospital-based study
CONCLUSIONS: This study's results are similar to those described in previous studies from around the world, except for the unreported Transposition of the Great Arteries (TGA) cases. This kind of information is very important for setting priorities in the Saudi Arabian health sector in light of the National Transformation Program.PMID:38074278 | PMC:PMC10706519 | DOI:10.4103/jfmpc.jfmpc_2008_22 (Source: Primary Care)

Transcatheter Ventricular Septal Defect Closure with Lifetech ™ Konar-MF Occluder in Infants Under 10 kg with Only Using Venous Access
AbstractTranscatheter closure of VSD remains a complex procedure in infants with technical challenges and carries the risk of significant complications, due to its complex anatomical morphology and closed proximity to the atrioventricular valves and the conduction system. In this article, we presented transcatheter VSD closure in infants under 10  kg using the Lifetech Konar-MF device via only venous route without TEE guidance and arterial access. Between January 2021 and May 2023, a total of 34 patients weighing less than 10 kg who underwent transcatheter VSD closure antegradely with Lifetech™ Konar-Multifunctional (M...
