Research trends and hotspots regarding treatment of obstructive sleep apnea
ConclusionOver the past two decades, research in the field of OSA therapeutics has experienced significant growth in depth and breadth. The author cooperation network has already established a solid foundation, while there is potential for further strengthening the cooperation network between countries and institutions. Currently, positive airway pressure and surgery are the primary treatments for OSA in adults and children. Future research will focus on multidisciplinary combination targeted therapy, which presents a key area of interest and challenge. (Source: Frontiers in Neurology)

Defibrillation Testing of the Subcutaneous Implantable Cardioverter-Defibrillator at the time of Generator Replacement
Defibrillation testing (DFT) of the subcutaneous implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (S-ICD) is recommended at the time of implantation,1 but data during generator replacement are lacking.2-4 We prospectively studied all patients undergoing S-ICD generator replacement at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania from September 2020 to February 2023. The study was approved by the institutional review board and all patients provided written informed consent. Under general anesthesia, QRS-synchronized 10 J shock impedance with the old and new generators were recorded. (Source: Heart Rhythm)

Promoting Empathy and Affiliation in Relationships (PEAR) study: protocol for a longitudinal study investigating the development of early childhood callous-unemotional traits
Introduction Children with callous-unemotional (CU) traits are at high lifetime risk of antisocial behaviour. Low affiliation (ie, social bonding difficulties) and fearlessness (ie, low threat sensitivity) are proposed risk factors for CU traits. Parenting practices (eg, harshness and low warmth) also predict risk for CU traits. However, few studies in early childhood have identified attentional or physiological markers of low affiliation and fearlessness. Moreover, no studies have tested whether parenting practices are underpinned by low affiliation or fearlessness shared by parents, which could further shape parent&ndash...

17.1 Psychosis Neurophenotype in 22q11.2 Deletion: Mechanisms Driving Risk and Resilience
22q11.2 deletion syndrome (22qDS) is associated with increased psychosis risk and a similar presentation to idiopathic psychosis. There is marked heterogeneity in the course of affected individuals, and prospective longitudinal studies are limited. The collaborative brain-behavior studies of Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP)-University of Pennsylvania (Penn) in 22qDS aim to: 1) parse the heterogeneity among individuals with prominent psychosis spectrum symptoms (PS+) compared to those without such symptoms (PS-), in relation to neurobehavioral functions; and 2) elucidate potential mechanisms by probing mitochondri...

Patient randomised controlled trial of technology enabled strategies to promote treatment adherence in liver transplantation: rationale and design of the TEST trial
Background and aims Liver transplantation is a life-saving procedure for end-stage liver disease. However, post-transplant medication regimens are complex and non-adherence is common. Post-transplant medication non-adherence is associated with graft rejection, which can have long-term adverse consequences. Transplant centres are equipped with clinical staff that monitor patients post-transplant; however, digital health tools and proactive immunosuppression adherence monitoring has potential to improve outcomes. Methods and analysis This is a patient-randomised prospective clinical trial at three transplant centres in the ...

Accuracy of symptoms and pulse checking for detecting atrial fibrillation following catheter ablation
ConclusionsOur data indicate that a strategy of pulse checks and symptom assessment is insufficient to identify all episodes of AF in many patients following catheter ablation. (Source: Journal of Interventional Cardiac Electrophysiology)

Retrospective Analysis of Heterotopic Ossification in Zimmer-Biomet and TMJ Concepts
This is a retrospective cohort study to review all the cases in which patients have undergone alloplastic TMJ reconstruction from 2011 to 2021 at the Hospital of University of Pennsylvania. The primary objective is to determine the heterotopic ossification incidence between 2 competing FDA-approved alloplastic implants (Zimmer-Biomet © and TMJ Concepts©), and secondary endpoint to perform statistical analysis to identify the risk factors of heterotopic ossification.
