Enhancing cutaneous wound healing: A study on the beneficial effects of nano-gelatin scaffold in rat models
This study focuses on assessing the potential benefits of implementing a nano-gelatin scaffold for wound healing. Using a rat skin defect model, full-thickness incisional wounds were created on each side of the thoracic-lumbar regions after anesthesia. The wounds were left un-sutured, with one side covered by a gelatin nano-fibrous membrane and the other left uncovered. Wound size changes were measured on days 1, 4, 7, and 14, and on day 14, rats were sacrificed for tissue sample excision, examined with hematoxylin and eosin, and Masson's trichrome stain. Statistical comparisons were performed. The gelatin nanofibers exhib...

Do medical devices contribute to sustainability? Environmental, societal and governance aspects
Int J Artif Organs. 2024 Apr;47(4):229-239. doi: 10.1177/03913988241245015. Epub 2024 Apr 15.ABSTRACTSustainability of a product or device is currently primarily related to its environmental footprint. Here, a wider concept of sustainability is introduced for medical devices and their components in healthcare provision. Such devices sustain healthcare and patient wellbeing due to their quality specifications for material composition, product design and performance. The term quality must be intended in the most comprehensive term, including purity and biocompatibility of materials, device reliability, limited number of reca...

Treatment of Cavernous Transformation of Portal Vein Caused by Hepatic Cystic Echinococcosis Using Ex Vivo Liver Resection and Autotransplantation
CONCLUSIONS Through this paper, we aim to detail the treatment process, showcasing the feasibility and advantages of ELRA. Additionally, we propose a novel approach for the treatment of this disease, while emphasizing the importance of radical resection surgery to prevent long-term complications.PMID:38622855 | PMC:PMC11032082 | DOI:10.12659/AOT.942358 (Source: Annals of Transplantation)

Computed Tomography-Based Body Composition is Related to Perioperative Morbidity in Older Lung Transplant Recipients
CONCLUSION: Body composition parameters determined in pretransplant chest CT scans in older LTx candidates might aid in identifying high-risk patients with a worse perioperative outcome after LTx.PMID:38626904 | DOI:10.1055/s-0044-1782683 (Source: The Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgeon)

COVID-19 and renal allograft rejection: insight from controlled and non-controlled studies
CONCLUSION: In conclusion, the limited number of published controlled studies revealed no statistically significant association between COVID-19 infection and biopsy-proven rejection among KTRs. However, the broader analysis of non-controlled studies showed a variable rejection incidence with a pooled rejection rate of 11.8%. There is insufficient high-quality data to explore the association of COVID-19 infection and rejection.PMID:38627208 | DOI:10.1080/0886022X.2024.2336126 (Source: Renal Failure)

Use of biologics for psoriasis in solid organ transplant recipients
We report a case from our institution of a 29-year-old man with a history of psoriasis, who underwent a kidney transplant and later developed erythroderma. He did not respond to traditional treatments and was successfully treated with adalimumab, leading to the discontinuation of MMF. We also reviewed literature in solid organ transplant patients with psoriasis. Our findings, based on 10 articles, indicate a cautious approach to using biologics in this group, with further research needed for efficacy and safety.PMID:38623950 | DOI:10.1111/ajd.14292 (Source: The Australasian Journal of Dermatology)
