In vitro study on the sealing effect of different shapes of cuff tracheal tubes under the lowest safe pressure
CONCLUSIONS: Continuous pressure monitoring devices can maintain the effective sealing of conical-shaped cuff catheters at the lowest safe pressure. When using an improved pressure measurement method for intermittent pressure measurement and/or using a cylindrical cuff catheter, the target pressure should be set at 25-30 cmH2O, and the cuff pressure should be adjusted regularly.PMID:38404268 | DOI:10.3760/cma.j.cn121430-20230117-00029 (Source: Cancer Control)

A Dosimetric Comparative Study of Carbon-Ion Radiotherapy Versus X-ray Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy for Stage III Non-Small-Cell Lung Cancer
CONCLUSIONS: Compared with photon VMAT, 2D-CIRT using the passive beam scanning technique significantly reduces the radiation dose to the OARs in curative radiotherapy of stage III NSCLC, suggesting a better protection of the normal tissues.PMID:38409153 | DOI:10.4103/njcp.njcp_734_23 (Source: Clinical Lung Cancer)

Tracheal Tumours
Zentralbl Chir. 2024 Feb 21. doi: 10.1055/a-2223-1175. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMalignant primary tracheal tumours are rare. The most common histological subtypes are squamous cell carcinoma and adenoid cystic carcinoma. These two entities have different prognoses and growth patterns. Tracheobronchoscopy and thoracic sectional imaging are standard diagnostic tools for tumour staging and local evaluation. Complete surgical resection of the affected tracheal segment is the treatment of choice for limited disease without distant metastases. Incomplete gross tumour resection with additional irradiation is an acceptable th...

Temporal patterns of cancer burden in Asia, 1990-2019: a systematic examination for the Global Burden of Disease 2019 study
This study examines the temporal patterns of incidence, mortality, disability and risk factors of 29 cancers in Asia in the last three decades.METHODS: The age, sex and year-wise estimates of incidence, mortality, and disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) of 29 cancers for 49 Asian countries from 1990 through 2019 were generated as a part of the Global Burden of Disease, Injuries and Risk Factors 2019 study. Besides incidence, mortality and DALYs, we also examined the cancer burden measured in terms of DALYs and deaths attributable to risk factors, which had evidence of causation with different cancers. The development st...

Toward a comprehensive life-cycle carcinogenic impact assessment: A statistical regression approach based on cancer burden
This study explores a highly comprehensive pathway for LCCA assessment. It uses the impacts of Tracheal, bronchus, and lung (TBL) predicted by the LCCA of China's coal power industry through a screened statistical regression model as the research target. The latest global burden of disease estimates is utilized to quantify the health damage from TBL incidence, whereas an approach combining the actual cost of health and human capital is applied to further assess the economic burden of TBL. Findings indicate that the traditional and static LCCA method, which relies on animal toxicity data, can lead to underestimations in act...

Efficacy of airway stenting and nasogastric tube insertion in airway –esophageal fistula patients with airways compromised by advanced malignancy
ConclusionIn airway-compromised AEF patients, airway stents and nasogastric tubes are probably the preferred treatments. Airway stenting is tolerable, and routine weekly poststent bronchoscopy is needed in the first month and depending on respiratory symptoms thereafter. (Source: The Clinical Respiratory Journal)
